Job Posting Description

This internship opportunity is open exclusively to candidates who have been pre-screened and selected through our designated selection process. Only those who have received an invitation to apply should submit their applications.

Each intern joins a Kirby Center lab or Core facility pursuing work aligned with their interests, and each student interacts with both the Principal Investigator (PI) and a lab member designated as a day-to-day mentor. The interns develop and pursue discrete research projects, with PIs and mentors providing guidance on project design, execution, interpretation, and communication. The ten-week internship takes place in the summer. At its conclusion, interns present their research at a celebratory poster session attended by the Kirby Center community.

Interns are also provided with a customized curriculum, starting with a “bootcamp” that orients them to the research community and continuing with weekly workshops that provide them with scientific and career skills. These sessions are taught by a dozen or more Kirby volunteers whose career stages span the range from research assistants to PIs. Kirby volunteers have gained important experiences in teaching, mentorship, and communication.
