Civil/Magistrate Warrants Clerk

GENERAL SUMMARY: The purpose of this classification is to process, track and issue warrants and perform related administrative functions for the Civil and Magistrate Courts.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
- Act as a judicial officer: serves and assists as clerk for various courtroom proceedings; conducts probable cause hearings; reviews applications; takes sworn statements; determines sufficiency to issue arrest warrant; and maintains related documentation and files.
- Receives, reviews, prepares and/or processes department documents such as felony and misdemeanor criminal warrants, civil orders, or other department documentation: verifies, completes and/or codes required information; enters and updates information into department databases; creates new spreadsheets/files; and purges old data as appropriate; makes copies and distributes as appropriate; maintains copies in department manual files.

Performs customer service functions: answers telephones; provides assistance, requested documents and information regarding criminal histories, warrant types, status and processing, court procedures, fees, etc.; takes and relays messages and/or directs calls to appropriate personnel; and returns calls as necessary.

Operates Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) and other computer systems to enter, identify, retrieve, and/or update criminal information: enters, obtains, validates and provides warrants, criminal history or other information as requested; initiates/retrieves computerized messages to/from national and state agencies; deletes recalled warrants or expunges warrants per established procedures.

Accepts payments and records receipt of same; balances cash drawer; prepares deposit; and forwards reports and monies as appropriate

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma or GED is required
Experience: Two (2) years of experience providing customer service administrative support in a court system, law enforcement, or corrections agency; or any equivalent training in the criminal justice system
Licensing/Certification:
***Due to required certifications, candidates with felony convictions are ineligible to be hired as a Warrants Clerk.***
- Must be or qualify to become a certified Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Operator and maintain certifications.
