Job Summary
To promote a safe environment for the campus, to perform public relations with students, faculty, staff, and visitors, to work cooperatively with the Department of Environmental Health and Safety in promoting college wide safety initiatives, to maintain order at on-campus and satellite facilities, pursuant to College policies, state, and federal law.
 
Essential functions for this role include:
1. Respond to calls for service and provide emergency and non-emergency assistance.
2. Protect personnel and property within the campus boundaries, including the surrounding community.
3. Conduct investigations as required.
4. Respond to medical emergencies and provide care as needed.
5. Enforce local, state, and college criminal, traffic, and parking statutes and regulations.
6. Actively patrol grounds and buildings and make recommendations to improve security and safety.
7. Perform felony and misdemeanor arrests, as necessary.
8. Handle extensive confidential information and records.
9. Work with limited direct supervision, either independently or as a team.
10. Train and instruct other officers on methods and procedures.
11. Use deadly force and follow the use of force guidelines.
12. Assist the Department of Environmental Health and Safety in supporting their role in College safety and programs
 
Related Duties
1. Establish and maintain rapport with College personnel, students, the public, and community agencies, as necessary.
2. Act as Critical Incident Commander until properly relieved by supervising officer.
3. Assist individuals by providing information, directions, and general assistance wherever possible.
4. Report fire and safety hazards.
5. Carry out duties consistent with College policies and regulations.
6. Secure doors, windows and other structures.
7. Testify in the court of law.
8. Wear and maintain appropriate uniform.
9. Maintain current training and certifications.
10. Work with computers using various software applications and maintain certification in L.E.A.D.S. computer use.
11. Review and maintain daily activity logs and reports.
12. Obtain sensitive information for reports, then generate and prepare reports for court documentation and internal dissemination for the College.
13. Provide assistance to local police departments upon their request.
14. Learn and maintain extensive knowledge in criminal code statutes.
15. Handle and maintain various weapons recovered from suspects.
16. Learn and maintain extensive knowledge of vehicle code statutes.
17. Drive a motor vehicle under emergency and non-emergency conditions.
18. Collect and handle evidence from criminal and traffic accident scenes.
19. Raise and lower campus flags.
20. Handle bio-hazardous materials and chemicals in accordance with OSHA standards and for evidence safekeeping.
21. Complete proper paperwork, fingerprints, photographs, and maintain the constitutional rights of arrested subjects.
22. Transport large amounts of currency and checks to banks or other departments.
23. Operate and handle various radios and associated equipment.
24. Handle and operate speed-calculating (radar) equipment.
25. Handle and operate fire extinguishers.
26. Monitor weather conditions and provide warning for inclement weather and notice to the public.
27. Answer after-hours phone for all incoming calls for the campus.
28. Monitor several police frequencies for needed assistance and officer safety information.
29. Monitor maintenance radio frequency for needed assistance.
30. Monitor and respond to campus burglar alarms, holdup alarms, and boiler house alarms.
31. Other duties as assigned.
