Overview:

The Infrastructure Lead position in the Fusion and Fission Energy and Science Directorate (FFESD) is responsible for coordinating infrastructure, space and facilities within the directorate and providing leadership and oversight on all major infrastructure, space, facility, and equipment projects conducted.  The position acts in support of the FFESD research mission and directorate leadership to efficiently manage resources on behalf of the directorate personnel to allow greater focus on the mission.

 

This position will provide operational support to directorate staff to manage, acquire, renovate, and assign space. This position will be a primary interface to the ORNL Laboratory Modernization Division for infrastructure planning and development, space renovations and acquisitions, space management, and space assignment. The Infrastructure Lead will maintain compliance with all applicable Federal and State laws, DOE Orders, and ORNL policies and procedures regarding safety, quality, and environmental protection. Additionally, this position will work as a part of an integrated team that has responsibility for environmental, health, safety and quality oversight activities and facility management tasks associated with work control and facility operations in support of science and engineering activities.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the FFESD Space strategy and implementation plan to address both short- and long- term needs for the directorate.  Work with the Facilities and Operations directorate and FFESD management to ensure that FFESD needs are reflected in institutional space planning activities.
  • Monitor and manage utilization of spaces assigned to the FFESD and recommend changes to directorate leadership as appropriate.
  • Serve as the direct point of contact to the ORNL Space Manager for communicating directorate space needs and issues.
  • Interface with space managers from other ORNL organizations to ensure best use of space and collaborate on shared needs.
  • Coordinate laboratory and office space requests and transfers for the directorate, looking for ways to place research staff in offices as near as possible to their laboratories and/or workspaces.
  • Provide support to FFESD personnel to identify and develop infrastructure and asset needs in emerging strategic areas.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the directorate on all major infrastructure projects managed by the Facilities and Operations directorate that will benefit researchers in FFESD
  • Work with Complex Facilities Managers-(and/or Building Managers)  for facilities and buildings with FFESD presence, operations, and responsibilities to ensure adequate staff and efficient support from FOM, Facilities Engineer and maintenance team.
