The position of Senior Counsel Global Procurement, Net Zero & Energy provides legal counsel to clients on various matters arising from complex net zero transition projects, construction and procurement, energy, pipelines, and other aspects of operations associated with LyondellBasell’s North American manufacturing sites. This position reports to the Lead Counsel and is located at our North American Headquarters in Houston.
Day in the Life
- Advise internal clients on legal transactional issues in the area of renewable energy, energy transition projects, emissions abatement projects, EAC and other energy attributes accreditation and reporting (eg. carbon removal certificates, Guarantees of Origins) and related infrastructure projects, including aspects related to the governance structure, engineering, construction, public funding of the project.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of agreements, contracts, letters of intent, memorandums of understanding, JV and Joint studies agreements, etc., relating to transactional matters of varying levels of complexity, including but not limited to:
- Energy transition and Carbon reduction initiatives such as CCS/CCU, circular, green or blue hydrogen units development and offtake agreements,
Additional electrical capacity and connections arrangements, - Renewable energy PPAs, either physical and financial,
- Steam, water, electricity supply (including behind the fence arrangements), and pipeline and onsite supply of industrial gases,
- [Large capital and construction investment via EPC, EPCM agreements as associated with emissions abatement projects,]
- Procurement of goods, materials, and services (for projects and corporate support / professional services)
- Energy transition and Carbon reduction initiatives such as CCS/CCU, circular, green or blue hydrogen units development and offtake agreements,
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide legal support, advice, and guidance on corporate development projects and strategic transactions in the areas of emissions abatement, sustainable energy and related infrastructure projects.
- Partner with internal clients to support business objectives, in a manner consistent with applicable laws, and the company’s accepted level of risk.
- Provide legal risk assessments and handle pre-litigation claims in cooperation with Disputes.
- Actively support our Sustainability Company Targets, including Scope 3 targets in light of upcoming supply chain due diligence requirements.
You Bring This Value
- Juris Doctor degree
- Admission to at least one state bar in good standing
- A minimum of ten years of relevant professional legal experience practicing law in a medium to large law firm and/or similar in-house legal department
- Knowledge and experience with commercial transactions and regulatory standards applicable to matters listed above
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without visa sponsorship
