Position Summary
The Director, People Experience Communications, is responsible for shaping and delivering strategic communications for the People Organization, in alignment with HR and enterprise objectives.
This is not a traditional internal communications role. We are seeking a marketing-minded communicator and storyteller who brings creativity, audience-first thinking and a campaign mindset to how we engage employees. This leader will elevate internal communications by applying modern storytelling approaches, innovative formats and insight-driven strategies to inspire action, strengthen culture and connect employees to our purpose.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute integrated, audience-first communications strategies and campaigns that support BMS People Strategy and enterprise priorities.
- Bring a marketing and brand mindset to internal communications, leveraging segmentation, insights and creative concepts to drive engagement and behavior change.
- Drive employee engagement through bold, compelling storytelling that simplifies complexity and connects employees to purpose, strategy and impact.
- Lead the development of creative narrative and content (video, digital, leadership platforms, social-style storytelling) across internal and external channels.
- Serve as strategic partner to People Org and Corporate Affairs, ensuring cohesive, high-impact communications across inclusion & Culture, PBRG and broader People initiatives.
- Build and deliver enterprise-level campaigns that reinforce culture, values and employee experience, positioning BMS as an employer of choice.
- Translate complex transformation initiatives into clear, motivating and confidence-building communications.
- Partner across teams to align messaging, channels and editorial strategy, ensuring consistency and impact across leadership and employee audiences.
- Lead multi-channel communications including enterprise email, video, digital platforms and live experiences (e.g., People Week, town halls, activations).
- Bring innovation and continuous improvement to communications approaches, testing new formats, channels and storytelling techniques. Focus on sharing BMS and its people-focused achievements, company culture/values and other topics to support BMS as a great place to work.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional experience in employee communications in the Pharmaceuticals or other highly regulated industry.
- Bachelors in a related field.
- Demonstrated leadership of and collaboration with internal team members and agency support.
- Experience in marketing, brand or agency environment strongly preferred, with demonstrated ability to apply creative, campaign-based thinking to internal communications.
- Proven experience designing and executing strategic communications campaigns aligned to business priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to translate strategy into compelling storytelling and engaging content experiences.
- Strong understanding of modern communications channels and formats including digital, video and social-style content.
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with team members and agency resources across business units, functional departments, geographies and disciplines through clear communication.
- Exceptional written and interpersonal communications skills. Ability to “roll up sleeves” and demonstrated success in executing on complex change management campaigns.
- Strong presentation and facilitation skills; ability to engage with and persuade wide variety of audiences.
- Experience working with ambiguity and complexity.
