JOB SUMMARY:

The Northeastern University, Residential Security Office, utilizes a workforce of Northeastern resident assistants, contract security officers, and over 800 part-time student employees (proctors) to provide year-long 24/7 front desk security in 40+ residence halls and leased properties across the Northeastern Campus. Each shift may require 38-44+ proctors in order to ensure adequate coverage and breaks. The Assistant Director will supervise and oversee the off-hour operations of the Residential Security Office by engaging in fieldwork (responding to pertinent on-campus incidents, conducting residence hall front desk inspections, liaison with Residential Life and Public Safety personnel) and by providing off-hour support for key administrative issues (scheduling systems, hiring and training programs, discipline referrals, residence hall security policies, and updating a banned list in emergencies).

The expected work schedule is Tuesday-Saturday, 6 pm-2 am flex as the Senior Director advises. Changes in the schedule should be expected to ensure adequate coverage for holidays and vacations. The evening/night Assistant Director should expect to adjust the schedule in order to meet proctor training demands and other related duties. Changes in the schedule may be on short notice, depending on the needs of the office. Assistant Director should expect to work 8:30 am to 4:30 pm for one month after the start date for training purposes.

The Assistant Director will meet with Public Safety supervisors, Community Police Officers, and Residence Life Staff to facilitate clear channels of communication for matters of campus safety during off hours.

The Assistant Director will ensure the completion of all shift reports, enforce department policy and procedure, address emergency and non-emergency situations at stations in a timely manner, evaluate shift personnel for rehiring and promotion, and guarantee that student employees are performing their job function to the fullest degree possible. Supervision is an extremely critical role to ensure the residence halls' safety and security by ensuring that the staff is performing at the expected levels.
