General Summary of Job Duties Principle Responsibilities and Duties

  • Maintain a high quality of guest service according to Silverton Values.

Qualifications

Skills, Education & Other Requirements

  • Knowledge of aquarium systems including life support systems for fish, animal husbandry, maintenance needs, and quarantine protocols for a large variety of marine species.
  • Knowledge of general fish biology.
  • Knowledge of the basic principles of water filtration and tank cycling.
  • Knowledge of health and safety procedures for working around and within a 117,000 gallon salt water aquarium and associated laboratory/quarantine facilities.
  • Ability to trouble shoot and fix pumps, pump parts and motors 3HP and under.
  • Proficient with Hach and Thermo Scientific water quality testing equipment.
  • Ability to correctly alter water parameters as well as calculate and administer drugs/treatments.
  • Basic knowledge of ozone units.
  • Basic working knowledge of the purchasing program SWS.
  • Scuba certified or prepared to obtain scuba certification.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with both staff members and managers.
  • Ability to keep records and communicate effectively and diplomatically, both orally and in writing.
  • Upbeat attitude and sense of humor.
  • 5 years experience with a large (more than 20,000 gallons) public oriented aquarium working with marine fish and/or life support.
  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Biologic
