Responsibilities
The student selected to work in the Secure and Assured System Software Division will perform research and software engineering tasks in support of the development and testing of cybersecurity technologies. The student will be expected to work with multiple senior technical staff members and communicate effectively both orally and in written memos or presentations. The technical responsibilities will vary depending on the project assignment, which is tailored to the student's skills and the Draper project lead. Current opportunities in advanced cybersecurity research topic areas include:
- Cyber Resilience and Trusted Computing hardware/software stacks
- Fuzzing and Property-Based Testing
- Information Flow Control and Compartmentalization enforcement technology
- Artificial Intelligence as applied to the Cyber domain
- Program analysis, both static and dynamic
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- The student must be enrolled in a graduate degree program (exceptional undergraduate students will also be considered) in a relevant field such as computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, etc.
- Student should provide evidence of high aptitude and academic performance.
Preferred Qualifications:
Depending on the specific project assignment, the skills that are helpful for many in this area may include those listed below. The student is not expected to have every skill listed.
- Strong C and C++ skills
- Knowledge of Linux and/or embedded runtimes (RTOSes)
- Knowledge of fuzzing and other automated testing techniques
- Computer architecture, including assembly language and instruction set architectures such as RISC-V
- Exposure to functional programming languages, such as Haskell and OCAML
- Experience with compiler implementation
- Experience with static and/or dynamic program analysis techniques, either at source or binary levels
