General Description / Primary Purpose:

This position performs clerical and operational support functions for the Office of Human Resources. This position performs a variety of routine tasks to facilitate all functional areas of human resources including, but not limited to, employee relations, processing and records, benefits, leave, training, and recruitment. This position handles inquiries and correspondence of a confidential and sensitive nature.


Job Functions:

  • Responsible for opening the HR Office daily and ensures that the front office is ready for business at the beginning of the day.
  • Greets and answers visitor questions and/or direct to the appropriate contact in HR.
  • Answers and routes phone calls for the various HR functional units and routing and/or responding to email requests.
  • Funnels general HR ServiceNow inquiries from internal and external clients to the appropriate HR functional unit.
  • Processes human resources related transactions to ensure accurate and timely resolution.
  • Performs general HR data entry for personnel changes/updates in the HRIS system.
  • Responds to reference checks and verification of employment status.
  • Verifies payroll paperwork processing for new and promoted employees ensuring that proper documents are received, logged and filed in personnel file.
  • Assists with new employee orientation: prepares payroll packets for new hires; completes electronic processing of I-9 form (Employment Eligibility Verification), assists with E-Verify as needed.
  • Assists with other general office or fiscal activities.
  • Maintains high standards of confidentiality of all employee records and information. 
  • Other duties as assigned by the HR Leadership Team.
 

Marginal Functions:

  • May assist with special projects as requested by the HR Leadership Team.
  • May provide general guidance to student workers. 
  • During declared campus emergencies, this position may be required to perform specific job related duties at a designated off campus location or place of residence.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma and two years of experience directly related to the job functions. Directly related college coursework may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Department Requirements:

  • Must have excellent customer service skills; ability to multi-task; outstanding communication skills (both written and verbal); problem solving skills, and strong interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of clients, both internal and external.

  • High level of proficiency in using MS Office Suite with advanced Excel and Outlook skills.

  • Experience utilizing Workday is preferred.

  • Experience providing administrative and/or clerical work in higher education setting is preferred.
