**This is a full-time, hourly position during NIGHT SHIFT. Typical hours are 7p-7a. ***MUST have a valid drivers license and reliable transportation to travel to partner hospital sites within our service area.
Role Overview:
Consistent with the mission, vision and values of Lifeline of Ohio, coordinate clinical aspects of organ and tissue recovery in collaboration with other departments at Lifeline like Family Services, Donation Program Coordinators (HD), Clinical Responders, Tissue Recovery, and partner hospital clinical teams. Evaluate the suitability of patient referrals to be donors, stabilize and maintain donors clinically prior to organ/tissue recovery, coordinate recovery procedures, and arrange for organs and tissues to be transported to their intended destinations.
Responsibilities:
1. Onsite referral response and evaluation of potential donors as needed.
- Conduct comprehensive suitability evaluations of potential organ donor referrals.
- Transition suitable donor referrals to the Family Services team to obtain authorization for donation.
- Document daily to ensure a suitability for donation until authorization.
2. Verify that brain death testing, donation authorization, and UDRAI are complete and accurate
- Review the authorization/BMV registry for accuracy, any identified restrictions, and completeness; communicates with FSC to correct errors or missing information.
- Reviews the Brain death testing against hospital policy for accuracy and complete documentation.
- Review the UDRAI for completeness; communicates with FSC to correct errors or missing information.
3. Initiates organ donor cases to include obtaining blood specimen(s), labeling, and packaging for shipment to designated facility and documents donor information as required. Key skills are:
- Hemodilution documentation
- Communication with the hospital blood bank
- ABO & ABO subtyping
- TransNet labeling
4. Collaborates with hospital professionals and medical examiners to ensure necessary information is communicated and specimens obtained.
- Calls ME on every donor; verifies restrictions and ME sample requests.
5. Completes and maintains real-time documentation in Lifeline electronic medical records systems from case start to recovery. Chart clinical activities in iTransplant and DonorNet, referencing data in hospital partners EMRs throughout the duration of the donation case.
- Attaches all required documentation in the electronic donor records & DonorNet record.
6. Completes chart review and QA requirements to ensure accuracy of documentation and completion of record at conclusion of organ recovery and as requested post recovery. Responsible for daily culture reporting.
7. Performs other related duties as required
Key Performance Indicators:
- Meet or exceed organ donation targets, including conversion rate, authorization rate, and organ yield goals
- Donor management goals met on every donation opportunity
- Improvement in DCD and patient withdrawals rates
- Successful, on-time delivery of recovered organs and tissues to intended destinations
- Organ charts completed by organ recovery coordinators accurately and timely
- All charts closed within set timeframes
- Reportable events addressed timely without reoccurrence of underlying issues
- Effective working relationships with partner hospital clinical teams
Requirements
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in a clinical field of expertise, or equivalent combination of certification and experience
- Effective knowledge of medical terminology and clinical care principles
- Understanding of UNOS, OPTN, and CMS/FDA regulations
- Must obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) before completion of introductory period.

- Excellent communication skills with ability to work and communicate effectively with a variety of OPO, hospital, transplant and medical professionals required.
- Self-motivated and possess ability to meet requirements of a demanding on call schedule required.
