About the role

Dauphin County Parks & Recreation is currently accepting applications for the position of Part Time Parks & Recreation Intern at Fort Hunter Park. The role of the employee in this position is to assist in providing education, recreation, and historical programming for the County Parks system, including Fort Hunter Mansion; to help with planning, implementation, and facilitation of programs and events; and to contribute to the preservation, safety, and interpretation of park and historical assets. The employee in this position is responsible for but not limited to performing the following essential functions listed below. 

Essential Functions:

  1. Collaborates with volunteers, staff, and community groups; organizes and deploys these groups for activities including education, preservation, and upkeep of parks and historical sites.
  2. Greets, orients, and guides visitors through Fort Hunter Mansion and park facilities, including teaching school workshop classes in spring and fall.
  3. Facilitates outdoor and educational activities, promoting engagement with park resources and historical collections.
  4. Collects admissions, staffs the Museum Shop, and operates the cash register and credit card machine.
  5. Performs daily chores, including light housekeeping and basic office duties.
  6. Answers phone calls, responds to visitor inquiries, and assists with event coordination and special projects.
  7. Assists in the maintenance of Mansion gardens and general outdoor park spaces.
  8. Participates in staff and planning meetings, prescribed trainings, and required conferences.
  9. Works a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as needed.
  10. Completes an intern or personal project that contributes lasting value to the County Parks system.
  11. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Other Duties of Job:

  1. Assists the Educators and Program Manager with special events and additional tasks as required.
  2. Performs other job-related duties as necessary.

Minimum Education, Experience, and Training Requirements:

A. Education/Training:

  • Currently earning or having earned a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

B. Work Experience

  • Experience working with the public, in education, parks, museums, or historic interpretation is beneficial but not required.
