Job Profile Summary
The Environmental Center Growing Spaces, Indigenous Garden, and Cultural Kitchen Coordinator is a split position between the Environmental Center, which resides under the Department of Belonging, and Reconciliation Department, and reports to the Director of Reconciliation. For the Reconciliation Department, this position will coordinate care of the Indigenous Garden, oversee student projects and workers, and host academic and community visitors in these spaces. At the Environmental Center, this position will coordinate care of the Campus Garden, Food Forest, and compost system, oversee student projects and workers, and host academic and community visitors in these spaces. The coordinator will also manage and oversee operations of the Cultural Kitchen, used by Centers in the Department of Belonging.

Job Description:

Essential Functions and Responsibilities 

Department of Belonging- 25% 

• Manage the Cultural Kitchen, equipment, supplies, space usage, and safety protocol.  

• Coordinate usage of the Cultural kitchen between different Centers in the Department of Belonging. 

• Orient users in usage of the Cultural Kitchen space, including food safety protocol.  

• Manage community engagement with the space, including cultural food-related events.  

 

Indigenous Garden- Department of Reconciliation – 35% 

• Coordinate and manage care of FLC’s Indigenous Cultural Garden, equipment, and learning area at Fort Lewis College. 

• Collaborate with Department of Belonging Centers, Student Engagement Centers, and academic departments, and stakeholders (including students) to identify, develop, and manage projects and programs related to the aforementioned areas to 1) achieve the Department of Reconciliations learning outcomes and  

2) align with FLC’s overall strategic plan 

• Sit on and report to the Indigenous Growing Spaces Steering Committee.  

• Manage community outreach for the Indigenous Garden with a specific focus on Environmental Justice. Communicate with speakers and community members, reserve rooms for community events, and organize lectures. 

• As available, assist the Director of Reconciliation with assessment, tracking, and reporting for projects and programs. 

 

 

 

Environmental Center- 40% 

• Coordinate and manage care of the Environmental Center’s Campus Garden, Food Forest, composter, and harvest processing station (in the Cultural Kitchen) at Fort Lewis College. 

• Collaborate with EC and Department of ENV faculty, professional staff and stakeholders (including students) to identify, develop, and manage projects and programs related to the aforementioned areas to 1) achieve the EC’s student engagement goals and student learning outcomes and 2) align with FLC’s overall sustainability goals 

• Assist EC Assistant Director to recruit, train, educate, support and retain student leaders to take part in the EC’s efforts; enable these students to explore their personal ethics/values, develop a sense of belonging, and gain professional skills. 

• Sit on the FLC Campus Sustainability Committee to coordinate successful and impactful sustainability efforts for FLC and the greater community 

• Align EC student-run projects with the CSC’s Climate and Sustainability Action Plan 

• As available, assist the EC Assistant Director with assessment, tracking, and reporting for projects and programs
