Function:
Three School Early Childhood (EC) Teachers are responsible for creating learning opportunities for children ages three & four, in an environment where students, their families, MPS staff and community feel and experience a sense of belonging, safety, wellness, and respect. EC teachers design and implement lesson plans based on the MN Early Childhood Indicators of Progress (ECIPs) and culturally sustaining best practices in early learning. EC teachers facilitate learning that is positive, respectful and
inclusive across learning environments.

 

Responsible to:
Director of Early Childhood Education

 

Qualifications:
• Valid MN Early Childhood teaching license
• Demonstrated knowledge of anti-racist teaching
• Demonstrated unwavering commitment to anti-racist teaching
• Experience in urban, multicultural education
• Knowledge of, and experience with, cultural differences and students learning English as a second language
• Knowledge of, and experience with, the process of acculturation to American society

• 3 years of instructional experience working with African American students and families
• Knowledge and understanding of the developmental needs of children & their families
• Proven technological teaching capacity
• Demonstrated continued professional development through course work, research, peer collaboration and/or job-embedded staff development

 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Multilingual in English and Somali, Spanish, Hmong, Oromo, or Amharic preferred

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
• Facilitate student-to-student, student-to-teacher, and teacher-to-parent relationships based on established group learning norms within safe, equitable, and engaging learning environments
• Design and implement culturally relevant, differentiated instruction based on ECIPS
• Team-teach with early childhood teachers, special education teachers, community partners, and paraprofessionals
• Engage in reflective practice of instructional effectiveness via design and implementation of formative assessment opportunities within lessons
• Participate as a data-driven team member with parenting educators, early childhood teachers, and instructional coaches to engage in professional development, problem solving, and innovative program development
