Opportunity
Abt Global seeks bright, talented, and intellectually curious students to participate in our summer Abternship. As a paid intern in the Client Engagement and Growth (CE&G) unit of Abt’s Global Development Group (GDG), you will primarily support the Resilient Economies (RE) portfolio and focus especially on business development efforts with USAID. The RE portfolio covers technical areas including agriculture market systems, food security, and economic growth and governance (e.g., enterprise competitiveness, trade, investment, economic policy).
As an Abt intern, you will gain hands-on industry experience while being immersed in Abt’s organizational culture. You will learn from and interact with people passionate about the work they do. You will meet and collaborate with colleagues who are experts in their respective fields, while experiencing events/programs that are useful in any professional setting. Our intern program encompasses professional development opportunities, networking events, and a mentorship program. The CE&G RE intern will gain particular exposure to the global development community through a variety of learning and networking events. Interns can be remote, hybrid, or in person and can be located anywhere in the United States.
The Summer Internship Program at Abt Associates is 10 weeks, from June 2, 2025, through August 8, 2025. Interns must be able to work full time (40 hours per week) for the duration of the program.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
All interns must participate in programming, seminars, and meetings scheduled throughout their Abternship.
The CE&G RE intern will support the RE portfolio across a range of workstreams, including by conducting strategic research and analysis, strengthening RE’s client understanding and relationship management, contributing to external communications efforts, and supporting management and coordination of business development efforts. Specific assignments will be determined based on the team’s priorities during the summer of 2025, as well as the intern’s background and interests. Further details and examples are provided below, in no particular order.
Strategic research and analysis
- Conduct or contribute to qualification research for one or more new USAID project opportunities, including by analyzing current programming, client priorities and needs moving forward, and other relevant factors
- Undertake competitive analyses to inform key decisions regarding whether and how to pursue new business opportunities
- Conduct internal research on Abt’s experience in RE technical areas and contribute to writing capabilities statements and other material that showcase Abt’s work
Client understanding and relationship management
- Support market analysis about client priorities and needs, such as by conducting desk research, analyzing and presenting data and intelligence, and attending industry events
- Research and summarize relevant client news and policies to inform Abt staff working on business development and program implementation
- Conduct client mapping and intel gathering to strengthen Abt’s client understanding and inform relationship building
External communications and thought leadership
- Assess Abt’s externally facing content (e.g., website), identify opportunities for improvement, and coordinate or lead revisions by working cross functionally with RE colleagues, project delivery teams, and the Marketing & Communications division
