What you need to know about the role:We are looking for an experienced, highly talented, and self-driven Web Engineer to join our team! In this role, you will be developing and enabling new payment methods and features for PayPal’s Web SDK. You will play a pivotal role in designing and building the next generation of PayPal’s developer experience. You will be responsible for building and delivering features for PayPal’s Web SDK, maintaining and contributing to open source, and evangelizing and engaging with external developers. We’re looking for someone who is eager to learn, eager to teach, provides thought leadership, and has a strong focus on empathizing and understanding what developers need.

Job Description:
Your Way to Impact:As a Staff Software Engineer for PayPal Merchant SDK, you will provide technical leadership for your development team and you will lead the team’s participation in all phases of our software development lifecycle. In this role, you will be responsible for shaping the future of PayPal's SDK and integration products. This will be accomplished through technical leadership, implementation of technical designs, direct contributions to architectural decisions, influencing the technical direction of our client-side applications and mentoring of junior engineers. You will be responsible for developing industry-leading experiences that bring absolute value to both merchants and buyers. You will use your years of technical expertise and a solid understanding of the business domain to help us improve the scale, reliability, and performance of our platforms.Your Day to Day:
- Developing and enabling new payment methods and features through PayPal’s Web SDK.
- Mentoring and helping develop other engineers.
- Working with stakeholders across PayPal to create a simple, robust Web SDK that enables all PayPal has to offer.
- Partnering closely with cross functional partners in design and product.
- Providing feedback on code and contributing to architecture discussions.
- Engaging with internal and external developers to better understand developer pain points and ways to improve the developer experience.
- Communication is key to our process, and we don't want to hinder it with walls. We work directly with other teams.
- Engineers build, test, release and monitor their own code.
- We pair program often. We believe that we do our best work when we work and collaborate together.
- We default to async communication and call for meetings when necessary.
- We hold daily stand-ups and have regular retrospectives to discuss things that are going well and opportunities for improvements.

What you need to bring:
- 8+ years of experience in developing Web and Node.js applications.
- Experience building developer-facing products (e.g. SDKs, REST APIs, GraphQL).
- Excited about our team’s focus on open source and improving developer experiences.
- Experience with or interest in working with a team of engineers.
- Keep current on industry trends and technologies and apply them to our products.
- Experience with technologies such as JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Node.js, and common test frameworks.
- Strong attention to detail, as well as a passion for delivering high-quality software solutions and compelling customer experiences.
- Experience in building responsive, accessible, and mobile-friendly user interfaces.
- Solid understanding of the possibilities and limitations of the modern web across all device types and form factors.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and those in non-technical roles, such as marketing, finance, and legal.
- Strong problem-solving skills, possessing the ability to work independently or collaboratively to analyze and address complex technical challenges.
