The Royal Caribbean Group’s Global Marine Operations Team has an exciting career opportunity for a full time Director, Technical, Fire, and LSA Safety reporting to the AVP, Safety, Standards, and Improvements.

 

This position will work on-site in Miami, Florida

 

Position Summary:

 

The Director, Technical, Fire and LSA Safety role is responsible for overseeing safety and marine standards from a technical, fire and life-safety appliance (LSA) perspective across all Royal Caribbean Group brands. In this role, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the company's adherence to safety regulations through developing and executing a strategic vision and maintaining high standards in the maritime industry. You will also oversee corrective actions, new regulations, and continuous improvement initiatives related to technical, fire, and LSA safety for the operational safety program.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

• Lead Safety Initiatives: Drive innovation in technical, fire, and LSA safety procedures. Keep up to date with fleet operations, industry regulations and standards, and safety practices. Lead development of fleet standards around technical, fire, and LSA operations appropriate for all Royal Caribbean Group brands.
• Improve Safety Culture: Collaborate across the company to enhance safety policies and practices. Work closely with crew members and officers on all ships.
• Lead Safety Projects: Play a key leadership role in operational safety task forces. Develop and lead projects focusing on technical, fire, and LSA safety. Organize and collaborate with cross-functional team members to meet project goals. Oversee the financial and planning aspects of these safety projects, including implementing new regulations.
• Streamline Workflows: Use project management tools to align team efforts. Prepare clear reports for senior management.
• Lead and Improve Safety Programs: Develop, implement, and oversee technical, fire, and LSA safety inspections and audits to identify opportunities for continuous improvement, simplification, and standardization. Regularly update senior management on these programs.
• Develop Training Programs: Work with the training team to create and update safety training, including compliance with STCW standards.
• Standardize Solutions: Aim for consistent safety solutions across all brands. Participate in investigating accidents and incidents involving technical, fire, or LSA elements with Maritime Compliance group; offer subject matter expertise and track internal Global Marine Operations root cause analysis, corrective actions, and follow up on continuous improvement findings.
• Analyze Safety Data: Monitor and report on safety incidents and compliance. Develop action plans based on data analysis. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs and initiatives, making recommendations for improvement as needed.
• Stay Informed on Regulations: Stay updated on international and manufacturer safety regulations, industry best practices, and emerging trends to continuously improve our safety programs and procedures.
• Research and Implement New Technologies: Explore new technologies for improving safety across all RCG brands. Update safety policies and equipment accordingly.
• Support Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Assist with equipment and software related to safety. Coordinate with other departments like supply chain and technical services. Foster a culture of safety by promoting open communication, encouraging employee participation, and recognizing safety achievements.
• Support Operational Requests: Help with safety-related requests from groups and charters.

 

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:

 

• Minimum of 10+ years of experience in technical safety, preferably in a leadership or managerial role
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as engineering, safety management, or a related discipline
• Maritime license with shipboard/platform experience required or equivalent military experience
• Advanced knowledge of personal computers within a Windows environment including e-mail, Microsoft Office 365 (word, excel, Power BI, SharePoint, etc.) and related printers and equipment
• Strong understanding of technical safety principles and regulations
• In-depth knowledge of industry-specific safety standards and best practices
• Proficient in conducting risk assessments and hazard identification
