Position Overview

The School of Engineering and Technology (SET) at the University of Washington Tacoma (UWT) invites applications for two tenure-tenure track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor in Information Technology (IT). This is a full-time (100% FTE) position with a nine-month service period, with an expected start date of September 16, 2025. The initial appointment is for a three-year period, renewable upon successful completion of the second-year review.

Responsibilities

All faculty at the UW engage in scholarship, teaching, and service. Successful candidates will be expected to pursue a vigorous research agenda and teach classes at both the graduate and undergraduate levels in Information Technology. Successful candidates should expect to teach in a variety of modalities, including online, hybrid, and/or in-person, in the context of an urban-serving university campus. The expected teaching load for this position is equivalent to six courses annually. Successful candidates will also participate in service to the university and profession, and will be expected to contribute substantially toward creating a diverse and inclusive community of faculty, staff, and students.

Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to: teaching, research, or industry experience in a relevant field; demonstrated cross-disciplinary expertise in teaching and research; and research foci in Cloud and Edge Computing, Cyber Security, Wireless Networks, Mobile Networks, or Systems Integration.

Compensation

The base salary range for this position is $13,047 to $13,278 per month ($117,423 to $119,502 per 9-month academic year), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Other compensation associated with this position may include a one-time relocation allowance and startup package. The School of Engineering and Technology (SET) was created in 2001 through a public/private partnership to address the critical demand for computing and engineering professionals in the South Puget Sound. Today, SET has 37 tenured and tenure- track faculty, 20 teaching faculty, 1 research faculty, and approximately 1,000 students. SET faculty have received research funding from federal/government grants/contracts, and industry partners. The IT program offers a Bachelor of Science in IT (BSIT), a Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT), a Master of Cybersecurity and Leadership (MCL) in partnership with the Milgard School of Business.  The IT program also offers a minor in computing, open to all majors at UWT.  In addition to IT, SET offers undergraduate degree programs in Computer Science, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering, and graduate degree programs in Computer Science and Electrical and Computer Engineering.
