The City of Manhattan is accepting applications for a KDHE Camp Director for Little Apple Day Camp. The Camp Director will work directly with the Recreation Supervisor to implement a licensed school age summer program for 185 youth. The selected candidate(s) must be able to attend all in-service training sessions.


The position includes full-time, daytime hours (Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. during the summer camp time frame). Director duties run from late May 1st - early August with staff hiring and pre-camp preparation from March to May.


Essential Functions

  • Plans and programs all day activities including life sports, arts and crafts, games, music, and outdoor recreation.
  • Supervises day camp staff and campers.
  • Prepares weekly and daily schedules.
  • Maintains records for State of Kansas licensing requirements. Attendance, Vaccine records, physical form, and permission forms.
  • Coordinates scheduling for transportation and drivers.
  • Notifies the proper agency in the event of an emergency.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

 Required Knowledge, Skills, & Additional Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Recreation, or a related field. 
  • Experience necessary to achieve certification as a childcare facility director can be substituted for education requirement.
  • CPR/First Certification (can be obtained through Parks & Recreation). 
  • CDL with passenger endorsement or ability to obtain. 
  • Selected candidate(s) must pass a KBI background check. 
  • Must be 18 years of older. 

Preferred Knowledge & Skills

  • Experience with special needs campers.

  • This is not a KPERS covered position. 
  • Seasonal position (March - August).
