We are open to Fall/Winter 2025 PhD graduates willing to start January 2026.
The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As a Senior Research Chemist you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Synthesizing and characterizing specialty monomers, additives, fillers and polymers to drive differentiated performance in 3M products
- Collaborating with 3M partners to develop chemistry for 3M product roadmaps and scaling qualified chemistries with 3M’s chemical manufacturing teams
- Authoring technical reports, patents and research proposals. Maintaining electronic laboratory notebook records of hypothesis driven research including test conditions, results and observations.
- Summarizing experimental data using Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Word or other software applications. Presenting at team meetings and other forums.
- Safely maintaining an organized chemistry laboratory
- Other duties as assigned
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- Ph.D. (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
- Five (5) years of laboratory environment experience in an academic, private, public, government or military environment
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Ph.D. or Post-Doc in Chemistry (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution with a focus on small molecule or polymer synthesis, reaction methodology, physical organic principles or materials synthesis.
- Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Performing and guiding self-initiated research programs
- Experience working with diverse teams including external partners
- Experience presenting scientific research and/or research proposals
- Authoring scientific publications and/or patents
