ROLE SUMMARY
The Packaging Associate Engineer will own packaging projects related to cost reduction and process improvement projects, vendor qualifications and product transfers. The Packaging Associate Engineer will author and review packaging specifications, execute change control, engineering trials, author technical reports and be a primary site contact with vendor technical support, serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for packaging investigations, Supplier Change Notifications (SCN) and Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCAR).
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead site initiated packaging cost improvement and continuous improvement projects.
- As an SME, support Supplier Change Notifications (SCNs), SCARs and packaging related investigations.
- Executes Change Control, Engineering trials and lab studies and Authors associated technical reports in support of packaging engineering / process trials and studies.
- Author, Proofread, Approve and Maintain package and label specifications and bills of material for package container/closure systems and secondary packaging components.
- Interface and represent site capabilities and competencies in support of the Package Design and Development departments of the Pfizer McPherson plant development of new packages and/or changes to existing packages.
- Serve as subject matter expert for component equipment interfaces and capabilities ensuring that package designs and systems will operate efficiently on existing and new packaging lines. It is the responsibility of the package engineer to ensure package components are designed properly to run on existing or new packaging lines with Pfizer of Pfizer contract manufacturers.
- Work collaboratively with Global Technical Services (GTS) Package Technology, Package Testing and Technology and Supply Chain and Procurement teams to support packaging and component projects.
- Serve as subject matter expert for SAP activities related to Master Recipes and Bills of Material.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in packaging or similar discipline required or equivalent experience with previous relevant experience preferred
Knowledge:
- Familiarity or expertise with packaging equipment and industry standards must be demonstrated. Experience with secondary packaging and labeling requirements for FDA regulated products desirable. Competency in PC software such as MS Word, Excel and Project is necessary
- Must be familiar with all aspects of package development and packaging operations.
Experience:
- Packaging engineering experience or equivalent experience in packaging or manufacturing environment preferred. The ideal candidate will have experience in the pharmaceutical or consumer healthcare industries and have a working knowledge of business procedures required to adequately perform minimal job functions.
- Must possess excellent communication skills coupled with a self-starter attitude, have demonstrated problem solving abilities and resolve to get tasks accomplished, project and task management skills, an ability to manage priorities while working under pressure and aggressive time constraints
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Packaging engineering experience or equivalent experience in packaging or manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience with secondary packaging and labeling requirements for FDA regulated products preferred.
- SAP Experience.

- Able to stand for extended hours for test runs
- Able to climb ladders/steps
- Able to lift items of up to 25 lbs
- Must be able to effectively communicate with others

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
Limited travel required. Occasional non-standard work hour support engineering runs or process trials, 24/7 manufacturing, etc. required when needed, though not typical of weekly requirements.
