The Mefford Lab seeks a self-motivated Researcher to join our dynamic team within the Center for Pediatric Neurological Disease Research (CPNDR).  CPNDR is part of the St. Jude Pediatric Translational Neuroscience Initiative, which aims to integrate basic, translational and clinical research to better understand and treat rare pediatric neurogenetic conditions. The Mefford lab research performs bench-to-bedside research focusing on genetic epilepsies and neurodevelopmental disorders. Our goal is to identify novel mutations and determine their biological implications to help inform precision therapeutic development.

The ideal candidate is expected to perform data collection, curation, analysis and writing related to clinical phenotyping of epilepsy disorders with a genetic cause. Tasks will include data collection, data entry, and creation of data repository for clinical data from electronic health records and de-identified online data reservoirs. An understanding of the underlying concepts of experimental design and experience with tasks such as DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, Western blots, and tissue culture is preferred but not required. The individual will support various lab projects and will be expected to present updates during both internal and external meetings.

Job Responsibilities:

• Assist in data collection, data entry, and creation of data repository for clinical data from electronic health records, and de-identified online data reservoirs.

• Review and summarize appropriate literature.

• Execute surveys, review survey data and collate data in preparation of data analysis.

• Participation in lab meetings to discuss research progress.

• Conduct literature search, preparation of posters and manuscript writing.

• Follows basic protocols, implementing experimental techniques prescribed by the supervisor and providing basic troubleshooting where appropriate.

• Accurately records experimental procedures and data.

• May draft results/data for posters, presentations or publications

• Performs other related duties as assigned in order to meet the goals of the department and institution.

• Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Minimum Education:

• Bachelor's degree in relevant scientific area is required.

Minimum Experience:

• No experience required.

• Some laboratory experience is preferred.

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $24.00 - $42.00 per hour for the role of Researcher- Mefford Lab.
