About the role

Seniority Level: Intermediate

Location: Toronto, CAN

About the role and about You:

Zwift is looking for a Software Development Engineer in the Growth team. Growth Engineering is - quite literally - the engine of growth for Zwift as we are responsible for the software and services customers interact with concerning their Zwift subscription. Our project and feature goals drive subscriber acquisition, improve retention, and, therefore, top-line revenue. Simplifications in the Growth space, for example in the area of payments, also contributes significantly to profitability. On the team, you will have a chance to go deep in a variety of different domains - performance and channel marketing and measurement, payments, customer communications, and finance (tax and accounting) in a recurring charge business - to deliver lasting, high-impact solutions for Zwift and its customers.

If you have a knack for rooting out complexity, delivering simple yet elegant technical solutions that also scale, in partnership with other engineers, we should chat. We’re looking for leaders just like you.

While this is a flexible/in office as needed position, we’re looking for candidates who are within commuting distance of Toronto to facilitate semi-regular in-person connections with other “Watopians” (a.k.a., Zwift employees) in the Toronto area.

We place a high value on flexibility, transparency, and fun while supporting our team to do their best work.

What you’ll do:

  • Work on software features in the Growth space. You’ll be expected to build out a deep understanding of the software and influence primarily your teammates and occasionally other teams and functions.
  • Build, and support business and customer goals in the Growth area. You’ll work full-stack across codebases including our subscriptions and payments back-end (Java), and our customer facing front-ends (Node, NextJS, React, Angular). Success here is indicated by delivering systems that meet functional needs with high quality metrics and automated testing.
  • Advise your team and manager concerning the state of the software and projects. You’ll partner with your team to take action and solve challenging problems.
  • Improve the quality of our code and processes on a regular basis.
  • Build trust with your teammates through delivering on commitments and raising issues that you’ve encountered even when it’s challenging the status quo.
  • Debug and resolve connectivity issues along with your team and peer teams. Where possible you’ll evaluate systemic root causes with the help of senior and staff engineers.

 What we’re looking for:

  • 2-5 years of experience in full-stack development
  • 1+ year experience in a work/team environment with object-oriented languages (like C++, Java, Scala) and web frameworks (like React, Angular)
  • Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related educational background
  • Experienced in structured, methodical problem solving and debugging
  • Track record of participating in constructive dialogue with an engineering team
  • Demonstrated strong judgment in routine and urgent situations. Demonstrated ability to escalate when needed.
  • Experience applying expertise to solve problems and able to learn quickly when in a new situation.

Bonus points:

  • Passionate about the fitness, wellness, or gaming space
  • Experienced working with geographically distributed teams.
  • Familiarity with Distributed Systems

How to stand out among the rest:

Your resume/CV is enough to show off your skills, accomplishments, and experience. However, if you choose to include a cover letter introducing us to your awesome personality, we will read that too.

We strongly believe that different backgrounds and ideas are a competitive advantage; we hire candidates of any race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, marital or family status, disability, Veteran status, and any other status. Zwift is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer. If you have a disability or special need that requires accommodation, please let us know by emailing careers@zwift.com.

Transparency in Coverage:

Health plan price transparency is designed to help consumers know the cost of covered items or healthcare-related services prior to the date upon which they receive care. Transparency in Coverage (TIC) regulations require health insurers and group health plans to create machine readable files (MRFs) that contain the negotiated rates for in-network providers and allowed amounts derived from historical
