Apply now for the position of Mechatronics Engineer in our global R&D organization. We are looking for a Mechatronics Engineer with a strong technical background in control systems, robotics, and mechatronics with a penchant for innovation. You will be reporting to the Director of Mechatronics & Structures in the mechanical engineering team. We are looking for someone who can drive execution of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Model-Based Design (MBD) through development of systems-integrated mechatronics models, and drive development of mechatronics, robotics, and automation systems for future Laboratory Diagnostic instruments and automation platforms. In this role, you would also champion development of new sensing, detection, and actuator technologies for our next generation instruments.
Your role:
- You will develop models, simulation tools and design-optimization methodologies for a wide range of precision motion, fluidic, and thermal controls applications.
- You will expand existing Model-Based Design (MBD) capabilities and develop and execute Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) workflows through systems-level integration of mechatronics sub-systems models.
- You will develop novel sensing, estimation, actuation and control solutions for our next-generation analyzers and automation systems.
- You will be responsible for guiding design engineers in executing the mechatronics design cycle that involves understanding design requirements, concept generation, design selection, and driving simulation-based servo-mechanical design optimization and robustness.
- You will be responsible for generating and testing model-based code for hardware-in-loop testing of prototypes for novel mechatronic and robotic designs.
- You will work with mechatronics specialists as well as design and test engineers from Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, and Firmware/Software functions to develop and integrate novel, improved and cost-effective Mechatronics solutions for Instrument and Automation platforms.
- You will contribute to technology development for Siemens next-generation diagnostics platforms.
- You will participate, initiate, and lead technology /design reviews with cross-functional teams.
- You will actively be part of the continuous improvement efforts within the Mechatronics Engineering function by contributing to development of improved modeling and simulation techniques, and authoring mechatronics design best practices.
- You will actively participate in the identification of potential technical problems and provide effective solutions through original and innovative thinking.
- You will travel across Tarrytown NY, Flanders NJ, and Glasgow, DE sites as needed to facilitate cross-site product and technology development work. We employ a hybrid work environment with work on site and from home based on business needs.
Your expertise:
- You possess a solid understanding of fundamentals of dynamics, control theory, sensors, actuators, circuit theory, basic/applied physics, basic electronics, and signal processing.
- You have a strong background in mechatronics and robotics.
- You are skilled in developing mathematical models and simulation tools for mechatronic systems ranging from detailed and coarse-grained physics-based models to integrated systems models that incorporate system behavioral logic.
- You have skills and experience in developing advanced control algorithms and designs to achieve optimal performance and robustness of robotic and motion control systems.
- You have a strong “system thinking” approach to problem solving.
- You can apply system level thinking in the mechatronics design process including relevant aspects of firmware and software architecture and their interaction with hardware.
- You will have working knowledge of system identification and parameter estimation methods.
- You are proficient in Matlab, Simulink, Simscape, and Stateflow.
- You are familiar with Simulink and Matlab-based code-generation and deployment.
- Your familiarity with Multiphysics modeling using Simscape and other tools is highly desirable.
- You have experience with programming in C/C++/ Python.
- You have broad-based knowledge of novel sensors and actuators as well as their underlying physical principles with applications to robotics, MEMS appl
