About the role

JOB SUMMARY

As a Level 2 NICU and Nursery Nurse, you will be responsible for providing specialized care to newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) as well as general care for infants in the nursery. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the best possible outcomes for newborns, including premature infants and those with medical complications. Your role involves monitoring vital signs, administering medications, providing feeding support, and offering emotional support to families during a critical time.

All staff within the department will complete training during orientation for the postpartum unit. Staffing for the postpartum unit is comprised of Labor & Delivery, and NICU / Nursery staff. By doing this, it offers the unit versatility and flexibility in the staffing pool.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education

  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Licensed as Registered Nurse in the state of KY.

·        Certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within the first year of employment.

·        Certification in STABLE within the first year of employment.

Minimum Work Experience

 

·        Previous experience in NICU or newborn setting preferred but not required.

 

Required Licenses

  • [Kentucky, United States] Registered Nurses
  • Current Kentucky RN license.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

NICU Care:

·        Monitor vital signs, including heart rate, respiratory rate, and oxygen saturation.

·        Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.

·        Manage specialized equipment such as ventilators, incubators, and phototherapy lights.

·        Provide assistance with procedures such as intubation, suctioning, and catheterization.

·        Assess newborns for signs of distress or changes in condition and escalate concerns to the medical team.

·        Educate parents on the care and needs of their newborn, including feeding techniques and developmental milestones.

Nursery Care:

·        Perform routine assessments of newborns, including weight checks and temperature monitoring.

·        Assist with newborn feedings, including breastfeeding support and formula preparation.

·        Ensure a safe and clean environment for newborns, adhering to infection control protocols.
