SUMMARY:

 

The WAVE Instructor/Advisor position facilitates learning gains with at-risk teenagers and ensures their success in middle school as well as earning a high school diploma. Advisors work in a blended, project based learning educational setting with a presence in both the learning lab (face to face instruction) and online with students, guiding them in developing and completing curriculum projects that meet Michigan content expectations. Advisors also may conduct home visits. In addition, collaboration will take place on a regular basis with other instructional staff. This instructional position is year-round, covering 210 working days. Hiring for Integrated Sciences (DI), multiple certifications preferred. This position will begin September 1st for the 2025-2026 school year.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

 
  • Michigan Teaching Certificate (non-expired) in Integrated Sciences

  • Possess a solid command of the course materials and curriculum development.

  • Possess skills identified by the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers. (They reflect the basic technology skills that every educator should possess.)

  • Experience with online or blended learning.

  • Computer literacy required; experience using learning management systems a plus (Google Classroom, Canvas, Blackboard, etc.) .

  • Highly dependable, must have excellent communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Must have personal warmth and approachability.

  • Committed to being a team player.

  • Great education facilitation skills.

 

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned.)

 
  • Work one-on-one or in small groups with at-risk high school students.

  • Instruct in certified content areas both online and face to face.

  • Provide tutoring in various subjects and assist students as needed.
