Job Summary

The Seasonal Golf Maintenance Staff is responsible for performing routine manual labor involved in golf course maintenance including but not limited to: semi- skilled grounds construction and maintenance work; operating small hand-powered equipment; and occasionally perform work involving large equipment such as tractors, loaders and gang mowers. The full wage range for this position is $15.00-$22.50. Hiring range is listed later in the job posting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties

  • Operate mowers and string trimmers to maintain greens, aprons, tees around trees, fence lines, banks and hillsides; edge cart paths; rake and maintain sand bunkers.
  • Perform golf course service and set up work as directed by setting tee markers and cups on greens daily; maintain ball washers; replace flags when needed; remove debris; sand and seed tee and drop area divots; and clean and re-flower beds.
  • Maintain fuel and fluid levels for all assigned equipment on a daily basis; report equipment problems or failure to supervisor immediately.
  • Return all equipment to the designated location at the maintenance facility; and clean the maintenance areas.
  • Under the direction of the Superintendent or Golf Course Maintenance Crew Leader mark the course for cart control, move cart control barriers, replace worn or lost ropes and signs, and mark hazard and drop areas.
  • Help in project work; assist in the construction of new greens, tees and fairways; grade and prepare soil base; lay sod; and seed tees, greens and fairways.
  • Install forms and lay walks and paths using gravel and asphalt mixes; excavate and backfill ditches and trenches with hand tools.
  • May be asked to operate mowers, dump trucks or other light equipment.
  • Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.

  • Keep supervisor informed of equipment and course issues.
  • Use appropriate time keeping method/system to accurately record time worked in accordance with policy/procedure.

Equipment Operation

  • Learn how to use all maintenance equipment effectively and in a safe manner.

Pay Range

  • 16.00 per hour Monday - Friday
  • 20.00 per hour Saturdays and Sundays

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and demonstrate the competencies listed above in addition to the following:

  • Working knowledge of and ability to use hand and power tools and equipment
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Visually inspect all work areas, golf course and grounds
  • See players on the golf course, and to follow the flight of golf balls
  • Operate vehicles and equipment for several hours at a time
  • Perform mathematical calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Ability to use two way radios.
  • Ability to work effectively with the general public, cooperating agencies, businesses, organizations, civic groups, and park district employees.
  • Ability to read, understand, remember, and interpret routine documents such as safety rules as well as communicate information therein.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
