Job Summary:
The clinician (MD or DO) in this position will function as an addiction medicine provider on the inpatient unit at Center for Dependency, Addiction & Rehabilitation (CeDAR) and affiliated programs within the University of Colorado Health system, providing high quality medical care and supervising fellows, residents and students as needed. This position is based at CeDAR, which is a leading residential addiction treatment center specializing in patients dealing with dual substance use disorders and mental health disorders.
TOTAL FTE COMMITMENT: .25 FTE.
Examples of Work Performed
The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
Clinical Care
· Provide full scope of inpatient addiction medicine care, with a primary focus on medically supervised withdrawal management, initiation and continuation of medications for substance use disorders, and stabilization during early recovery.
· Complete comprehensive medical intakes for all new admissions to CeDAR including:
o Evaluation and management of acute withdrawal syndromes
o Assessment and treatment of chronic medical conditions
o Identification and management of new or evolving acute medical complaints
o Determination of need for transfer to higher levels of medical care when indicated
· Conduct daily inpatient rounds for withdrawal management and stabilization of patients, adjusting treatment plans based on clinical course and interdisciplinary input.
· Perform pre-admission chart reviews to assess medical appropriateness and level-of-care suitability for prospective CeDAR admissions
· Participate in discussions with hospital-based providers to evaluate and coordinate transfers of medically appropriate patients from actue care setting to CeDAR
· Collaborate closely with nursing, behavioral health, case management, and recovery services to ensure integrated, patient-centered care.
· Supervise or assist in supervision of advanced practice providers (APPs) at CeDAR.
· Supervise medical students, residents, fellows and other healthcare learners.
· Assist in other supervision / administrative functions relating to a variety of addiction treatment service settings including integrated inpatient consult and ambulatory primary care settings, as directed by CeDAR Addiction Medicine Program Director.
· Provide weekend coverage as required.
