Data and Analytics Platform Engineer

We’re in the early stages of revamping our data and analytics (DNA) platform to enable new business use cases, streamline our ML workflows, and enable rapid onboarding of new content into our lakehouse environment. If you’re interested in working with data engineers, data scientists, and other internal data customers to design and build out our next generation platform, the DNA Platform Engineer position is for you!

What you do at Avant:

• Develop and manage scalable and resilient data and ML pipeline frameworks through their entire lifecycle - from design through monitoring and maintenance

• Work with internal customers and partners to understand platform needs and conduct user acceptance testing

• Research, document, and contribute to the roadmap for the DNA platform

• Implement new technologies and set standards along with the data platform team

• Draft initiatives and epics for the platform team

• Collaborate with product management to prioritize work and explain the value of technical initiatives to executive leadership

• Work with SMEs to translate business requirements into technical specs

• Partner with the platform team to design or implement new standards for increasing quality and efficiency within the team

• Review PRs created by the team

• Collaborate with product management to define the solutioning and prioritize

• Keep abreast of industry trends in the data and ML space and provide thought leadership on how to best keep our platform running efficiently

• Mentor teammates and be a part of a culture of learning

• Address escalated incidents with data pipelines and machine learning models
   

Why you are a fit for Avant:

• 3+ years of data and/or ML engineering experience

• Hands-on experience with Python and data/ML ecosystem libraries, some of

• which may include pandas, numpy, pyspark, dask, scikit-learn, xgboost, pytorch

• Track record of designing and implementing batch processing pipelines, familiarity with the following are a plus: Spark, Airflow, Databricks, DBT

• Experience designing and/or implementing ML pipelines strongly preferred

• Familiarity with MLOps concepts are a plus, we use tools like mlflow, bentoml,

• and H2o.ai

• Some experience implementing CI/CD pipelines, whether it be automated testing, image or package building, or service deployment

• Ideally some experience with cloud infrastructure and services, AWS preferred

• History of troubleshooting difficult technical issues using a deep understanding of the tools you work with

• Desire to achieve test-driven development

• Strongly prefer candidates in the Chicago area, but remote candidates will be considered
