SUMMARY: Assist Special Education Department Directors with all aspects of the Occupational Therapy Program, including planning, implementation, oversight, supervision, and evaluation of Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants. Provide support in recruiting and retaining Occupational Therapy staff. Monitor the effectiveness of program practices and support professional development.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following tasks describe the basic functions of the job and represent the type of work performed. They do not constitute an exhaustive list of the duties and responsibilities performed on the job. The following frequencies and percentage of time spent are approximations only.
- With the Director Special Education, plan, implement, and monitor all district services relating to the Occupational Therapy program. [Daily, 25%]
- Supervise and monitor effective instructional practices and develop professional development trainings and opportunities for Occupational Therapy staff members, aligning the Occupational Therapy program with the District’s strategic plan, goals, and initiatives. [Daily, 20%]
- Recruit, hire, evaluate, retain, and supervise Occupational Therapy staff, including Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants. Make staffing decisions, job assignments, and hire staff in accordance with district policies and funder requirements for governance. Provide support to and mentor Occupational Therapy staff as needed. [Daily, 15%]
- Provide assistance to the Director of Special Education and on-site assistance to building principals, district departments, and staff in effectively implementing the Occupational Therapy program. [Daily, 10%]
- Assess quality of therapeutic intervention monitoring, being visible, conducting regular observations and walk-throughs, communicating, and creating a clear behavior structure and atmosphere. Supervise and monitor operating and administrative procedures to ensure effective program operation, compliance, and progress on Occupational Therapy goals. [Daily, 5%]
- Using language and culture skills as appropriate, facilitate verbal and written communication between staff, students, and families for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems, and resolving conflicts. [Daily, 5%]
- Administer local, state, and federal statutes, rules, regulations, policies, and administrative directives pertaining to curriculum, instruction, and assessment services for the Occupational Therapy program, including preparing documentation and reports. [Daily, 5%]
- Represent the Occupational Therapy program at federal, regional, state, and local meetings and task forces as assigned by the Director Special Education. Participate in program governance regularly. [Monthly, 5%]
- Collaborate with district departments, schools, staff, and local agencies regarding the Occupational Therapy program. Regularly facilitate multi-stakeholder groups to ensure that family and staff suggestions are included in Occupational Therapy program design and operations. [Monthly, 5%]
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. [Daily, 5%]
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master of Occupational Therapy degree or similar field.
- Three (3) years of occupational therapy experience.
- Basic knowledge of typical office equipment such as telephones, copiers, fax machines, email, etc.
- Ability to effectively motivate and supervise people.
- Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
