GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Community Engagement Center (CEC) advances community engagement through a lens of social justice theory and social responsibility praxis, centering support around community-based courses, volunteering, and collaborative partnerships of faculty, students, and local community partners. The CEC aims to enhance the community-based research and teaching efforts of faculty and the socially responsible growth and development of course-based interns, volunteers, and work study students, to maintain respectful, reciprocal and quality collaborations with community partners.
Reporting to the CEC Interim Director, the Office Assistant helps meet the dynamic needs of Pitzer College faculty, students, staff, and partner sites. The Office Assistant supports CEC staff with all programming happening in the Center. Support includes general office duties, communications to the Pitzer community, and engagement with Pitzer and the broader community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Support CEC staff with to oversee students taking Social Responsibility Praxis (SRX) Courses, which includes assisting with student clearance and helping students adhere to partner/course guidelines.
- Assistance with monitoring student internship hours, managing CEC databases, and organizing student meetings.
- Support relationship management to ensure program autonomy and help build the capacity of the community partner site to function independently of CEC.
- Attend meetings and events in support of partner work to encourage a high level of engagement with students in these activities.
- Communicate regularly with partners about needs and help Interim Director to identify any potential gaps for needed programmatic adjustments with students or community.
- Assist CEC staff in preparing necessary reporting for the center.
- Participate in campus and department activities, including staff meetings and events.
- Adapt to dynamic circumstances in a fast-paced environment.
- Balance the time and need for both collaborative and independent work.
- Support the adherence of all Pitzer College and CEC protocols and policies, identify needs for policy creation and revision, and contribute to an overall healthy and positively functioning team.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The individual must possess knowledge, skills and ability to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
- Strong leadership and collaboration skills with a commitment to a team-based work environment.
- Natural aptitude for technology and expertise with MS Office, including expert level use of Excel.
- Ability to problem-solve and use analytical skills to develop and implement creative solutions.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to take initiative to work proactively, meet deadlines, organize and prioritize multiple projects, think strategically, and work with numbers and data.
- Exhibit personal integrity and ability to appropriately handle confidential and sensitive information.
- Exhibit a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and sound professional judgment.
