About the role

Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, one of the world’s leading global law firms with offices in strategic hubs of commerce, law, and government across North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, is seeking to hire a Patent Prosecution Clerk, reporting to the Senior Manager of Patent Support Services. This position will support patent prosecution activities, including assisting with the preparation and filing of a variety of patent related documents and applications.

Morgan Lewis recognizes the benefits of supporting flexible working arrangements. This position will reside in our Chicago office with a hybrid in-office/remote working schedule. Flexibility to work overtime is preferred.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assist with preparation and filing of patent prosecution documents with the USPTO, including New Patent Applications

  • Aid in the preparation of supplemental IDS from international and foreign search reports

  • Assist with preparation of client reporting letters and/or correspondence to the foreign associates regarding IDS, foreign disclosures, etc.

  • Assist with preparation and filing of international/foreign national documents

  • Collaborate in the preparation of non-technical prosecution documents, including Inventor Declaration, Assignment and Power of Attorney

  • Review and assist with processing of various patent related notices in accordance with set guidelines and procedures.

  • Provide client status reports and copies of documentation

  • Monitor patent docket

  • Provide overflow assistance as needed

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

  • A minimum of one year of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Analytical Project management skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on client service skills

  • Written and verbal communication skills in a team environment

  • Strategic planning and organizational skills

  • Ability to adapt to change and balance competing demands

  • Technical and software skills:  MS-Office (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel), CPI Patent, CPI Trademark, WorkSite, Adobe Acrobat, Legal MacPac

For positions in Chicago, IL, the salary range for this job posting is: $59,300.00 - $94,850.00.

The base salary or hourly wage range for this position will be determined during the interview process and will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to prior experience, relevant expertise, current business needs, and market factors. The final salary or hourly wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances. Additionally, salary or hourly wages may be only part of the total compensation package. The total compensation package for this position may also include a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered.
