Job Description

About the team:

Software engineers on the BKO Engineering team develop and maintain automation software which manages database backups across cloud-scale storage orchestration servers. Regular duties include patch development, release management, software troubleshooting and refactoring to support new environments. Writing and maintaining comprehensible documentation is the responsibility of all team members and strong coding documentation skills are a must.

What you get to do in this role:

  • Build high-quality, clean, scalable and reusable code by enforcing best practices around software engineering architecture and processes (Code Reviews, Unit testing, etc.)
  • Work with the product owners to understand detailed requirements and own your code from design, implementation, test automation and delivery of high-quality products to our users.
  • Design software that is simple to use to allow customers to extend and customize the functionality to meet their specific needs
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of new products and features while also enhancing the existing product suite
  • Collaborate cross functionally with backup development team and operational teams
  • Help design new orchestrations for managing the customer environments
  • Always ensure security & integrity of customer data
  • Be a mentor for colleagues and help promote knowledge-sharing
  • Design, develop, and maintain software solutions for secure and distributed environments.
  • Develop automation scripts and workflows using Python and Ansible to streamline deployments and configuration management.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate, monitor, and optimize storage technologies (e.g., NAS, object and blob storage).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex system-level and performance issues.
  • Contribute to architectural design discussions and provide recommendations for scalability, reliability, and security.

To be successful in this role you have:

  • Experience with data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, design patterns, and performance/scale considerations
  • Strong proficiency in Python for system-level development and automation.
  • Analytical and design skills
  • Ability to manage projects with material technical risk at a team level
  • Experience with Orchestrating automation of Linux server environments

Qualifications

  • Experience in leveraging or critically thinking about how to integrate AI into work processes, decision-making, or problem-solving. This may include using AI-powered tools, automating workflows, analyzing AI-driven insights, or exploring AI's potential impact on the function or industry.
  • Experience In using AI Productivity tools such as Windsurf, Cursor, etc is a plus or nice to have.
  • 6+ years of experience with Python or a similar OOP
  • Linux command line experience
  • Experience with developing automation to orchestrate changes to large scale environments

Nice to have:

  • Experience developing database backup and restore automation 
  • Experience with data transfer protocol, NFS/S3
  • Experience building and operating large-scale systems
  • Experience in SaaS and/or Cloud Infrastructure development
  • Experience with Ansible or other infrastructure as code solutions
  • Redhat Enterprise Linux, CentOS administration
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).

For positions in this location, we offer a base pay of $147,300 - $257,800, plus equity (when applicable), variable/incentive compensation and benefits. Sales positions generally offer a competitive On Target Earnings (OTE) incentive compensation structure.
