This advertisement is for a Career Service (CS) position located at 11-0 Miami Circuit Office.
Salary Rate: $40,676.48 annually
SALARY WILL BE DETERMINED IN ACCORDANCE WITH CURRENT PAY POLICY.
SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Employment Specialist:
At the direction of Circuit Leadership:
• Meets with offenders and works towards finding employment opportunities and resources for persons under some type of community supervision. Coordinates, facilitates or provides life skills classes, interviewing classes or other self-improvement classes designed to enhance the offender’s opportunity to gain employment. Duties include working with stakeholders in the community to develop partnerships which would allow persons under supervision to have a greater opportunity to gain employment while on supervision. This position will work in direct support of the correctional probation officers and supervisors and may include duties other than listed below.
• Coordinates and facilitates job readiness classes for offenders at the local probation office including classes which specialize in completing job applications and interviewing skills
• This position is directly responsible to the Circuit Administrator and/or designee. This position performs advanced and independent decision making and is primarily responsible to meet with offenders and assist them in obtaining gainful employment during their period of supervision. Schedules regular meetings and follow ups with offenders to provide them with assistance if they are having difficulty finding suitable employment.
• Coordinates and develops partnerships with the Department of Economic Opportunity to provide services and employment assessments for offenders under Department of Corrections supervision.
• Works in the community to establish relationships and partnerships to educate potential employers regarding tax credits available for hiring convicted felons.
• Develops a bank of employers/jobs where offenders can be referred based on their education, interest and/or job skill level.
• Develops partnerships with local educational and vocational schools in order to provide offenders with the opportunity to obtain needed education or
vocational skills necessary to obtain gainful employment.
• Assists offenders in completing online assessments designed to determine their interests/skills/strengths in order to assist them in finding the right job or career path.
• Assists inmates transitioning to community supervision by beginning the process of searching for potential employment or determining needed services prior to release.
• Coordinates job fairs within the Circuit on a routine basis.
• Coordinates volunteer and/or community service work for offenders to help them obtain skills and contacts which may eventually lead to employment and will enhance their skills and marketability.
• Attends and participates in staff meetings.
