Security Control Analyst
The Security Control Analyst uses analytical and critical thinking to maintain the safety and physical security for the entire BYU campus community. Position will be responsible to observe, receive, and interpret data from multiple and complex systems, sources, and personnel to detect threats or potential threats and relay information to law enforcement, medical first responders, and other entities involved in the incident(s).
What You'll Do in This Position
- Monitor and analyze information from security systems, alarms, surveillance cameras, emergency communications, and other sources to identify threats, hazards, and suspicious activity.
- Coordinate emergency response by receiving emergency and non-emergency calls, determining priorities, and dispatching police, fire, EMS, maintenance, and other university resources in accordance with established procedures.
- Simultaneously monitor multiple radio channels and maintain accurate status and location information for police officers, security personnel, emergency responders, and other field units.
- Operate and monitor physical security systems including access control, intrusion detection, fire and life-safety systems, environmental monitoring, and security cameras.
- Provide technical support and guidance to university departments regarding access control, alarm systems, security cameras, and related physical security technologies.
- Conduct investigative support by reviewing recorded video, researching system activity, and documenting findings for law enforcement and university personnel.
- Accurately enter, update, retrieve, and maintain confidential information in CAD, criminal justice, security, and other computerized records management systems.
- Coordinate communications and information sharing between university departments, public safety agencies, and government organizations during routine operations and emergencies.
- Maintain detailed documentation, process reports, make required notifications, and ensure compliance with department policies, Utah POST standards, and applicable state and federal regulations.
- Participate in ongoing training, maintain required certifications, and perform other assigned duties in support of the University's public safety mission.
What qualifies you for this role:
Required:
- A firm commitment to the mission of Brigham Young University.
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree with two years of dispatch experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
- Ability to successfully pass a background investigation, pre-employment screening, and meet all hiring requirements, including no felony convictions.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Utah POST Dispatch Certification, Total Response Police/Fire/Medical Certifications, and Utah Criminal Justice Information System (UCJIS) Certification within one year of hire.
- Demonstrate ability to remain calm under pressure, think critically, multitask, prioritize work, and make sound decisions during emergency and routine situations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to gather, interpret, document, and relay critical information accurately and professionally.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, reliability, integrity, confidentiality, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work rotating schedules, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts as operational needs require.
- Proficiency or the ability to become proficient with CAD, security camera systems, access control systems, life-safety monitoring software, radio consoles, Microsoft Office, and other public safety technologies.
