About the role

Job Description:

The Chief Clinical Information Officer (CCIO) is a critical leadership role responsible for driving the strategic vision, development, in addition to the implementation of technology initiatives within the organization. This leader ensures that technology resources are aligned with the organization's mission to improve healthcare delivery and outcomes.

The CCIO reports to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), and this position requires direct and continuous interface with all levels of leadership, vendors, strategic partners and key members of the community.


This role leads or co-leads effective, high-performing, relationship-based leadership teams that support Intermoutain's hospitals, community-based care, medical staff members, physicians and staff of the Intermountain Medical Group, affiliated providers clinical caregivers and Select Health. This role will lead or co-lead implementation, adoption and optimization of health information technology and clinical collaboration system wide. This position serves as the process owner of all activities related to the clinician and physician support strategy.

Essential Functions

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive informatics strategy, aligned with the healthcare system's mission and goals, while providing visionary leadership and direction to the Informatics team, ensuring a culture of data excellence and continued improvement.
  • Identify opportunities for technological innovation and digital transformation to enhance patient care, operational efficiency, and cost-effectiveness, while also collaborating with clinical leaders to optimize the use of Electronic Health Records (HER) and other clinical systems
  • Establish and enforce IT policies, procedures, and standards to ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and industry best practices; while fostering an environment of innovation and continuous improvement.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of IT professionals, while promoting a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the IT department.
  • Identify and address skills gaps, providing training and development opportunities to enhance team capabilities.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative leaders to understand technological needs and priorities, while fostering strong relationships with external partners, vendors, and service providers to ensure effective delivery of technology solutions.
  • Communicate and advocate for technology initiatives to Executive leadership and key stakeholders.

Project and Program Management:

  • Lead and oversee major technology projects and programs, ensuring on-time delivery on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and metrics to assess the impact and success of technology projects.

  • Lead the development and deployment of advanced analytics and business intelligence solutions and provide actionable insights to support clinical and operational decision-making.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) / Doctor of Osteopathic Medication (DO) or Bachelors in Nursing (BSN), required to have held a medical license to practice as a physician, with experience working in Informatics, providing data-based solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of Healthcare IT trends, tools, and best practices.
  • Expectational communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
