As a Senior Staff Systems Engineer, you will lead the life cycle development for products across the company. You will interface with customers to define what capabilities they need to tackle their problems. You will work with a cross-functional team within Shield AI to implement the customer needs, plan verification activities, collect and analyze verification data to assess product performance, identify a product’s design strengths and areas for improvement, and communicate results and recommendations within the engineering organization via detailed test reports.   

What you'll do

  • Interface with internal program managers and technical directors to define customer needs 
  • Develop and document system, subsystem, unit, and external interface requirements using requirements management tools for flow-down to cross-functional teams 
  • Document and maintain Systems Engineering Plan and architecture descriptions 
  • Plan and conduct system, subsystem and unit verification 
  • Document verification activities using compliance matrix, verification test procedures, and verification test reports 
  • Support proposal activities to determine the optimum technical approach, author technical descriptions, determine compliance to customer specifications, and support development of cost and schedule estimates 
  • Coordinately directly with technical directors on status updates and assist with design decisions 
  • Resolve technical challenges with a high degree of analytical expertise and originality 
  • Interface with internal Subject Matter Experts to develop system architecture and design 
  • Coordinate with other organizations, internal, and external, to ensure safe and effective execution of test events, including ground test, flight test, and demonstration events 
  • Define environmental testing requirements 
  • Other duties as assigned

Required qualifications

  • Minimum of 12 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years' experience; or equivalent experience.
  • B.S. degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) discipline, such as Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.  
  • Experience with Systems Engineering practices and principals, including writing, organizing, and verifying requirements. 
  • Experience in reading, interpreting, and applying engineering drawings, including assembly drawings, parts lists, wiring diagrams, and schematics. 
  • Experience with reliability and trend analysis. 
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams. 
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbally. 
  • Demonstrated record of working hard, being a trustworthy teammate, holding yourself and others to high standards, and being kind to others. 
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a US Security Clearance.  US citizenship is required as only US citizens are eligible for a security clearance. 

Preferred qualifications

  • M.S. degree in STEM discipline. 
  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering Tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler. 
  • Experience with requirements management tools such as Borland Caliber, DOORS, or Jama. 
  • Experience in failure modes and mechanisms related to the assembly, test, and repair of complex electromechanical systems. 
  • Experience with VTOL aircraft  
  • Experience with DO-160, ARP4754A, business jet, helicopter, electric aircraft, and aircraft OEM requirements 
  • Experience working in the DoD customer community (US Army, US Air Force, US Navy) 
Salary Range: $121,999 - $194,881 Annually + Bonus + Benefits + Equity (if applicable)
