Director of Security - Basketball

The Director of Security will oversee all security operations for the LA Clippers Basketball Operations unit, ensuring a safe environment for players and team staff. Director of Security will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive security strategies, policies, and programs at Intuit Dome and during team and/or player travel; and building and leading a best-in-class security team. Director of Security will collaborate with law enforcement, emergency services, Intuit Dome building security and other stakeholders to maintain the highest security standards.
This is a full-time role based in Inglewood, CA and is eligible for our competitive benefit offering including medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan with company contribution, Well-Being Allowance, and more. The scope of this position encompasses a 24 hour, 7 day a week operation with the transition of numerous daily events. Due to the nature of this industry, the candidate must be available to work a flexible schedule including weeknights, weekends, and holidays to cover NBA games and support NBA players and staff during travel and special events.
What You Will Do
Security Strategy Development:
- Develop and implement security policies, protocols, and emergency plans tailored to sporting events, training sessions, and travel.
- Conduct risk assessments and vulnerability analyses to identify potential security threats and develop mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with NBA Security to remain informed about current security concerns and data trends, ensure best practices are followed.
Team Management:
- Build and lead a team of security personnel, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
- Foster a culture of safety and responsiveness among security staff, ensuring compliance with established security policies.
Event Security Coordination:
- Coordinate and oversee security operations for all home games, special events, and public appearances, ensuring crowd control and safety.
- Collaborate with event planners and building and event security to ensure the basketball team’s security needs are met and integrated into overall event plan.

Incident Response and Investigation:
- Develop and lead incident response plans for emergencies such as natural disasters, medical emergencies, or security breaches.
- Investigate security incidents and breaches, documenting findings and providing recommendations for future prevention.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Build and maintain relationships with federal, state, and local law enforcement, emergency services, and other public safety officials.
- Communicate security protocols effectively to team members, staff, and stakeholders, providing necessary training and guidance.
Budget Management:
- Manage the security budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources for personnel, equipment, and training.
- Evaluate and procure security technologies and systems to enhance team security.
Compliance and Reporting:
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal laws regarding security operations.
- Prepare reports on security incidents, security assessments, and recommendations for management review.

Your Background, Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, security management, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- 7+ years of security management experience, with a preference for experience in sports and entertainment or executive security.
- Certification in security management (e.g., CPP, PSP) is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of the unique security challenges in the sports industry, including crowd management and team safety.
- Proven leadership skills and ability to manage a diverse team effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with various stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the capacity to make decisions under pressure.
- Familiarity with security technologies, surveillance systems, and relevant software.
