About the role

Description

University Farm student Facilities and Grounds Maintenance workers report to the senior Farm Maintenance employees and work with the Farm staff (Maintenance, Administration, and Farm Food Program), other student employees, and potentially with Farm researchers. This position will help with basic building maintenance and grounds upkeep on the Farm’s 400 acre campus. A good deal of time will be spent outside in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures. Experience with any of the following would be beneficial (but not required): mowing, weeding, string trimming, snow shoveling/plowing, painting, driving all-terrain vehicles. Any necessary training will be provided. A positive, safety-oriented, can-do attitude and willingness to be an important contributor is essential. 

 

Requirements:

  • Current CWRU student

  • A love of the outdoors

  • Must have the ability to work flexible hours during the work day between 8:00 am and 3:00 pm, Monday-Friday, at least 10-20 hours per week. Some after 3:00 pm and Saturday daytime hours may occasionally be assigned on an as-needed basis.

  • Be willing to work outside in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures 

  • CWRU driver training will be required to operate off- and on-road Farm vehicles. Must possess a valid driver’s license

  • Tool and safety training by Farm staff will be required 

  • Must be able to work independently, as a part of team, and pay careful attention to directions and details

  • Some previous grounds or maintenance experience is helpful, but not essential

 

Duties include:

  • Assist with outdoor and indoor Farm building maintenance including:

    • Cleaning

    • Event set-up and tear down

    • Mowing and string trimming

    • Leaf collection

    • Minor repairs

    • Light painting jobs

    • Trail and other grounds maintenance

    • Weeding and landscaping

  • May occasionally be asked to help the Food Program with weeding gardens and harvesting crops 

  • Other duties as assigned

 

Pay rate is $14/hour depending on experience.
