Job Description Summary
Full time APRN/PA working in the Community Psychiatric Clinic, to work with physicians and team management to assist in direct patient care, case management, practice development, and implementation of policies and procedures focused on patient-centered care models.The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner, under the Clinic Director, will deliver specialized health care to patients within the Community Psychiatry Clinic. Providers manage a variety of outpatient psychiatric conditions in patients.

Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) Status: Salaried
Hours per week: 40
Scheduled Work Hours/Shift: Monday- Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm
Required Minimum Training and Education: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant. Or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, as identified below.

APRN License Type/Certification:
PMHNP (Psychiatric Mental Health NP): (All ages) population foci may be adult only or across the lifespan (must check educational background) care of the psychiatric patient.
Preferred Experience: Minimum of one year of mental Health provider experience as an APP.
Degree of Supervision: Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse will be assigned a Primary Supervising/Collaborating Physician employed by MUSC and will report directly to this physician.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations:
Currently licensed (or eligible) in the state of South Carolina as a Physician Assistant by the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners or as an PMHNP with the SC Board of Nursing.
Requires certification in Basic Life Support (BLS). If BLS is not current, provider must enroll and have received certificate by start date.
DHEC and DEA license applications must be submitted prior to first day.

Overall Expectations of Role:
1: Evaluation (30%) - Takes comprehensive physical exams and performs exams that are accurate, complete, concise, relevant to the appropriate age, gender, and clinical problems to provide health assessment and screen for abnormal conditions.
2: Treatment (30%) - Orders appropriate diagnostic studies and correctly interprets results. Facilitates timely referrals and coordinated care among all members of the healthcare team. Determine, plan and initiate treatment appropriate treatment.
3: Patient and Family/Caregiver Interaction (20%) - Counsels and educates patients and families with excellence in compassion and the patient-centered approach at the bedside. Instruct and counsel patients and families on treatment plans and home care. Serves as an advocate for patients and families in navigating the health care system. Provides timely communication to in basket messages as appropriate. Professionally communicate with diverse populations including physicians, employees, patients and families.
4: Medical Records (10%) - Documents full evaluation and assessment and plan accurately. Document and bills patient encounters according to MUSC billing guides. Closes patient encounters/notes according to bylaws/rules/regs for direct care provided. Maintain confidentiality of all patient records.
5: Professional Responsibility/Scope of Practice (5%) - Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization. APRN or PA must maintain licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, and scope of practice/practice agreement, as required by applicable policies and state law.
6: Professional Growth (5%) - Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education. (i.e., weekly department conference, grand rounds, morbidity and mortality). Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice.
