Title

Occupational Health Supervisor Bronson ProHealth - Battle Creek

The Occupational Health Supervisor functions as shift leader and liaison with staff, providers, management and customers providing continuity of leadership day to day. The Occupational Health Supervisor acts as a role model, mentor, coach and resource person to staff to ensure that all department standards are maintained and to encourage a team environment. Assists in attracting, developing, maintaining, and retaining qualified staff members. Duties may include assisting with hiring, orientation, monitoring and evaluating performance, problem solving, employee counseling, staffing and payroll. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • 5 years of leadership experience strongly preferred 
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing with the State of Michigan preferred but not required.
    • For Licensed Registered Nurse only, BSN required within 8 years of start date.
  • Must initiate internal leadership training within 6 months of hire (e.g. leadership core curriculum).
  • Experience in a health care delivery setting required.
  •  Experience with workers compensation/occupational health strongly preferred.
    • Experience with Hospital Employee Health/Infection Control preferred.
    • Certification in Occupational Health/Case Management preferred.
    • Maintains BLS
    • Proficient with computers
    • Demonstrated ability to organize work and manage time
    • Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills, ability to resolve conflict, and ability to work as a team member
    • Demonstrated problem-solving ability
    • Demonstrated a basic level of competence in written communication including accurate spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
    • Involves considerable standing or walking, regular lifting of light-weight objects (i.e., 20 pounds or less) and assisting with heavier tasks such as assisting in lifting and moving patients.
    • May assist in the coordination and management of the care of injured workers for both Bronson and external employers if licensed RN.
    • Evaluates the quality and appropriateness of care if licensed RN.
    • Maintains current knowledge of accreditation, regulatory requirements and organizational standards and policies.
    • Accountable for coordination of day-to-day department operations.
    • Assumes responsibility for staffing and scheduling personnel following organizational policy.  Assignments reflect appropriate utilization of personnel.
    • Adjusts department staffing on a day-to-day basis to meet staffing needs (including managing volume changes, replacing call-ins, etc.)
    • Facilitates staff meetings.
    • Manages staffing levels to help department achieve its budget.
    • Participates in projecting staffing needs and assisting in creating a staffing plan with manager/director.
    • Approve/deny PTO.
    • Acts as clinical expert resource if licensed RN. 
    • Mentors staff, maintains positive relationships, drives teamwork and builds an engaging work environment.
    • Provides input into guidelines, policies, procedures, and standards.
    • Manages service recovery for issues that arise in the clinic.
    • Provides guidance for and supervision of personnel accountable to the leader.
    • Provides ongoing feedback to staff related to job performance (focuses on immediate performance coaching as indicated).  
    • Acts as role model, coach, and mentor to staff.
    • Conducts annual performance evaluations for direct reports.
    • Communicates all staff behavior and performance issues to managerial staff as needed.
    • Participates in first step discipline for attendance, behavioral and performance issues.
    • Participates in recruitment, selection and hiring of personnel.
    • Participates in establishing New Employee Accounts.
    • Manages service recovery for any employer concerns.
    • Reviews and approves payroll.
    • Actively participates in process improvement and strategy development.
