The Ann Arbor Child Development Center is hiring a full-time exempt Child Development Center Assistant Director. We believe the values and skills learned early on are vital building blocks for quality of life and future success. That's why our child care programs are staffed with people who understand the cognitive, physical and social development of kids, the need children have to feel connected and supported in trying new things and the caring and reinforcement parents and families need to help each other.


POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Child Development Center Director, the Assistant Director is responsible for program development, delivery, administration, and evaluation of all childcare programs at the Center. This position will ensure the development and facilitation of a well-balanced portfolio of specific planned learning experiences that support the social, emotional, physical, cognitive and linguistic development of all children. These duties will be performed in accordance with the established goals and policies of the Board of Directors, the overall YMCA mission and all legal and licensing regulations.


CDC Site: locations/classrooms/hours (subject to change):

400 W Washington St, Ann Arbor, MI 48103; 

Classrooms: Maple Early Preschool (2.5-3.5 years) Room; Willow Preschool (3.5 -5) Room Spruce School Age classrooms; Center is open 7:30-6 M-F.


Childwatch (6mo to 11years) Room. Childwatch  is open

Mon – Fri: 9:00am – 1:00pm & 4:00pm – 8:00pm
Saturday: 9:00am – 3:00pm
Sunday: 10:00am – 3:00pm 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS including but not limited to:

  1. Assist with billing and tuition collections.
  2. Support the recruiting, hiring, orienting, training, scheduling, supervising, regularly evaluating and any involuntary terminations of all childcare staff at their site.
  3. Manage staffing plan to meet ratio requirements. Assign schedules and work responsibilities.
  4. In partnership with CDC Director, coordinate, supervise and maintain developmentally appropriate programs for children aged 6 weeks to 10 years at their site. This includes, but is not limited to, the following programs: Early Childhood Program, Pre-Kindergarten Program, and After School Activities Program.
  5. Assist the CDC Director in the day-to-day operation of the Child Development Center’s programs.
  6. Assist with transportation from schools to the Y.
  7. Keep the safety of children as the priority; know how to recognize suspected Child Abuse and Neglect and reporting procedures, as required by the State of Michigan and the Ann Arbor YMCA.
  8. Serves as chief liaison with collaborative personnel at sites and work to maintain positive and collaborative relationships with partner administrators, and staff members.
  9. Facilitate programs consistent with Creative Curriculum.
  10. Perform classroom teaching duties due to the absence of a regular teacher, ratio needs or budget constraints.
  11. Demonstrate cultural competencies and respect for all people’s backgrounds by incorporating cultural, linguistic and familial values and beliefs into the program and lesson plans.
  12. Model positive adult-to-child and adult-to-adult interactions and foster an atmosphere of respect for children and adults. Develop discipline procedures and implement as needed.
  13. Represent the YMCA in the community and youth development spaces as well as in collaborations and coalitions.

General Functions:

  1. Support the mission, vision and goals of the Ann Arbor YMCA; promote character development and the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
  2. Promote the importance of being an inclusive organization to others inside and outside of the organization.
  3. Staff is expected to take advantage of opportunities for self-development and growth. Attend trainings and conferences as assigned.

Requirements

Must meet one of the following qualifications (applicable associate degree or higher preferred)

  • Associate degree or higher in early childhood education or child development
  • Associate degree in a child-related field (elementary education, child guidance/counseling, child psychology, family studies and social work) including 18 semester hours of coursework in Early Childhood Education or Child Development and 480 hours of documented experience
