About the role

JOB PURPOSE                                                                                                                                                                               

The Underground Mine Manager is accountable for maximizing the profitability of the operation by the safe, effective, and efficient management of all the assets and resources. This role is a member of the site Senior Leadership Team.

 RESPONSIBILITIES                                                                                                                                                                               

 

  • Provide overall leadership and support of our DNA through coaching, participating, and utilizing every possible opportunity to demonstrate alignment
  • Drive our Zero Harm culture; ensure the safety of employees by seeing that a positive safety attitude pervades the site and that sound safety programs are in place
  • Deliver NGM production and HSE targets according to plan
  • Lead the development, coordination and implementation of the mine's strategic plans and align those plans with the overall site, NGM and company strategy to ensure long-term profitability and growth
  • Build a value-focused department leadership team and ensure that direct reports are, in turn, leading the development of effective teams
  • Ensure that the various functional areas work efficiently and effectively together to satisfy operational, service and quality objectives
  • Monitor costs and site performance for the purpose of providing direction to ensure optimum utilization of human and financial resources
  • Improve performance and assure management and technical succession by acquiring, developing and motivating operational management and technical staff
  • Provide continuity of operations by ensuring that viable long-term plans are in place for seeking out, recovering and treating ore reserves
  • Provide direction for the development and implementation of organizational change
  • Make certain that suitable operational and maintenance control systems and procedures are in place to ensure ongoing competitiveness
  • Direct the preparation of the annual operating and capital budgets
  • Be a key member of site senior leadership team and, as such, contribute in a positive and meaningful way to cross-departmental initiatives
  • Build and maintain positive community partnerships

 

 QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                                                                                               

 

Experience

  • Extensive experience working in Australian underground mines required
  • Held a relevant trade certificate or tertiary qualifications required
  • Five years of experience in a senior leadership position with general oversight of a mining operation is required
  • Ten years of experience in a mining environment including underground mining is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to drive a Zero Harm culture
  • A strong working knowledge of mining equipment, methods, procedures and legislative requirements
  • A strong working knowledge of gold processing equipment, methods, procedures and legislative requirements
  • Ability to interpret engineering plans and offer sound technical advice with regards to mine design and ground control issues
  • Must have effective, well-honed management skills and be a “natural” leader with the ability to motivate and inspire people through positive example
  • Solid interpersonal skills, including a sensitivity and appreciation for cultural differences. Superior communications skills, both written and verbal, are also necessary
  • Ability to assume responsibility for decisions and actions, while demonstrating a high degree of business acumen
  • Demonstrate a genuine ability to work cooperatively with others as part of a senior leadership team, and encourage collaboration, trust and transparency across the organization

 

Education

  • B.S. in Mining, Geological, Civil or Metallurgical Engineering or equivalent experience preferred.
