JOB SUMMARY
Under direct supervision, learns to perform general care and provide for the physical and psychological well-being of laboratory animals used for experimental and breeding purposes.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Biological, Physical and/or Social Sciences preferred.
- Experience with animals, especially non-human primates preferred.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION
- Valid North Carolina driver's license.
- Technician certification by the American Association of Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Conducts inventory enrichment supplies for ordering, safety and usefulness on a regularly scheduled basis.
- Prepares enrichment foods for ARP scheduled enrichment provision.
- Rotates, introduces, cleans, fills, replaces and otherwise maintains object and feeding enrichment devices for all species.
- Assists in behavioral monitoring for promotion of psychological well-being.
- Assists in pairing and/or group formation of animals.
- Assists in data collection and preparation of publication materials.
- Becomes familiar with animal behaviors and animal care and use regulations to enhance the Enrichment Program.
- Operates mechanical equipment safely.
- Communicates pertinent information to clinical, supervisor and managerial personnel.

- Good oral and written communication
- Requires color vision
- Negative test for active tuberculosis
