This role will be located at one of Discovery Land Company’s locations: The Hills, set outside of East Quogue, New York.

The Hills is seeking seasonal Golf Course Maintenance Laborers to join the Golf Maintenance Department. These positions will be full time from February 20, 2025 – November 20, 2025. These positions are eligible for H2B visa sponsorship.

In this role, you will be part of creating the Discovery Land Company experience for our members and fellow employees.

Key Responsibilities

• Operates mowers and string trimmers in trimming greens, aprons, and tees around trees, fence lines, banks, and hillsides; also edges cart paths and rakes and maintains sand bunkers.
• Sets tee markers and cups on greens daily, maintains ball washers, replaces tee towels and flags when needed, removes debris, sands, and seeds, tee and drop area divots, and cleans flower beds.
• Maintains fuel and fluid levels for all types of equipment, such as riding mowers, push mowers, weed eaters, leaf blowers, and golf carts daily, and reports equipment problems or failure to the equipment manager immediately.
• Returns all equipment to the designated location and cleans the maintenance areas under the direction of the golf course maintenance supervisor, the groundskeeper-labor-rough crew marks the course for cart control weekly, moves cart control barriers, replaces worn or lost ropes and signs, and may mark hazard and drop areas.
• Waters and fertilize tees, greens, and fairways, and under the direct supervision of the director of agronomy and superintendent, spray chemicals on landscaped areas.
• Grades and prepares soil base, lay sod, and seeds tees, greens, and fairways.
• Assist with the maintenance and repair of irrigation systems, including sprinkler heads and pipes.
• May be asked to operate mowers, small utility vehicles for golf course use, such as the John Deere TX gator weighing approximately 600 lbs., or other light equipment.

Qualifications

• At least three (3) months of experience in golf course maintenance.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license or international equivalent.
• Must operate trucks, golf carts, and lightly motorized equipment.
• Must know operating hand and power tools and golf course maintenance equipment.
• Must work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and a shift greater than eight (8) hours in length.
• Must read, write, speak, and understand English; additional languages preferred.
• Must meet the physical demands of the position including, but not limited to, working indoors and outdoors, standing, walking, and moving for periods of greater than four (4) hours, and lifting, carrying, bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
• Background checks will be performed at the expense of the employer.

Benefits

• $21.87 to $24.50 USD per hour with overtime available at $32.81 per hour up to $36.75 per hour, based on hourly rate. 40 hours per week with varying shifts from 6:00 am to 5:00 pm, Sunday-Saturday. Returning workers and workers with experience may be paid higher wage rates.

• Daily travel to worksites in the area of intended employment is required. The requested temporary workers will be based at 65 Lewis Rd East Quogue, NY 11942. Employer provides transportation to and from all worksites.
• Optional housing is offered through a separate rental company. Cost of housing and utilities, if accepted, is $50.00 to $100.00 per week for a shared room.
