Your Role:

As the Senior Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Compliance Specialist, you’ll be working on development, implementation, and maintenance of Environmental and Safety programs that are consistent and compliant with applicable regulations and company policies and procedures. 

Responsibilities: 

  •  Implement and maintain site specific safety policies which include:
    • Develop and maintain compliance with all applicable regulations and/or guidelines established by Cal-OSHA, Federal OSHA, NFPA and NIOSH
    • Collaborate with department leadership to complete job hazard assessments and implement health and safety policies and procedures
    • Monitor employee exposure to physical and chemical hazards
    • Understand and implement machine guarding where needed
    • Develop recommendations for remedial actions when safety policies are not met by employees
    • Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment in order to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations
    • Complete and maintain documented safety observations from regular hazard identification audits
    • Investigate industrial accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine root causes, corrective actions and preventive measures
    • Develop, implement and maintain safety contingency plans (fires, spills, etc.)
  • Maintain, develop or implement site specific environmental policies/permits which include but are not limited to:
    • Develop and maintain compliance with all applicable regulations established by the EPA, CUPA, AQMD, LACSD, RWQCB, CEQA and NEPA, REG-4
    • Review and interpret new and proposed environmental laws and regulations, and provide guidance to management
    • Perform environmental compliance and due diligence audits to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies
    • Conduct and monitor the NPDES and other discharge permits/plans
    • Maintain recordkeeping and compliance requirements established for permitted sources defined by the local AQMD
  • Responsible for hazardous and non-hazardous waste management, including DOT and RCRA
  • Knowledge of Cal/OSHA requirements or a willingness to learn and apply them
  • Provides hands-on, comprehensive, site-wide review, guidance, implementation, and program support for all safety programs including lockout/tagout, electrical, personal protective equipment, hazard communication, machine guarding, and environmental programs.
  • Conducts routine, scheduled facility inspections and audits to monitor and detect potential safety, health, and environmental hazards.  Ensure PPE compliance among employees.   Recommends corrective action or preventative measures where indicated and appropriate. Properly reports and documents findings and actions taken. Offers solutions not just action lists.
  • Ensure efficient operations of the Facility Utilities Equipment such as HVAC, compressed air, chiller plant, lighting systems, wastewater treatment/recycling, and Building Automation System

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Biology or related physical science discipline with five (5) years of relevant/related experience
  • 5+ years of experience in design, development and general operational oversight of environmental, health and safety disciplines within a manufacturing environment
  • Experience and/or basic understanding of South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) rules, as well as environmental regulations
  • Ability to read, understand, and complete documentation as it relates to required permits for SCAQMD
  • Strong knowledge and experience in interpreting, applying and documenting federal, state and local safety and environmental regulations
  • Prior experience with paint processing equipment
  • Strong organizational and communication skills are essential
  • Familiarity and implementation of machine guarding and industrial hygiene programs
  • Experience with emergency response communication and incident management in incidents involving hazardous and non-hazardous material releases to air, soil, and water
