Job Description

The Development Tools teams under the Platform Development and Engineering Experience (PDEX) organization provides tools and services to enable software developers. The mission of the teams is to enable the NBCU developer community. This includes providing services, developing tools, and refining processes that allow teams to deliver software with reduced friction, increased velocity, the application of preferred architecture patterns, and overall increase developer satisfaction here at NBCU. The Development Tools teams currently covers services and tools focused on CI/CD, knowledge management, and issue & project tracking.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

We are seeking a talented individual to become the Senior Manager, Software Engineering for Development Tools in the Platform Development and Engineering Experience team to lead one of our critical engineering teams that selects and operates internal developer tools, ranging from source control to automation tools as well as modernizing CI/CD pipelines across the Software Engineering teams at NBCU. 

As a member of NBCUniversal's Engineering Experience team, you will be part of initiatives defining the tooling that goes into how the organization builds cloud-first platforms and services. You will partake in agile process methodology, cloud architecture, day-to-day operations, platform support, collaboration with cross-functional business leaders and partners, and management of a dynamic team that provides "best in class" development tools technology solutions for NBCU. You will manage Development Tools infrastructure using agile methodology, including the management and integration of tools such as JIRA, GitHub, and others. This position will directly oversee geographically distributed staff and onshore & offshore teams.

REQUIREMENTS:

• 8+ years of professional software development experience
• 3+ years of professional experience leading technical engineering teams and projects
• Understanding of the product, engineering, and test roles & responsibilities that make up a software delivery team
• Familiarity with cloud-native development (azure, aws, gcp), scrum processes, security-by-design, and modern devops practices
• Sharp eye for quality team contribution; ability to assess team member work product at attitude
• Experience with leading projects in highly collaborative, multi-disciplinary development teams
• Excellent verbal and written communication and collaboration skills to effectively connect with both business and technical teams
• Experience in software license management, tracking & reporting and owning vendor negotiations.
• Passionate about problem-solving and working with engineering and non-engineering partners.
• Ability to translate technical concepts into languages that the audience (business stakeholders and engineering partners) with various levels of technical background can understand to influence decision making.
• Results oriented, high energy, self-motivated
• Demonstrated experience recruiting and managing technical teams, including performance management.

Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Software engineering experience as a product manager, engineer, or manager
• B.S. degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field preferred
• Able to communicate effectively in a diverse team of varying skillsets and proficiencies. Able to lead and instruct or take directions when appropriate. Effective in-person, written and verbal communication skills
• Experience working in large, multifaceted, and matrixed organizations
• Collaborative team player accustomed to working within and across groups
• Organized and detail-oriented with ability to manage time effectively
• Ability to influence internal and external team members without direct reporting authority
• Keep up to date with emerging platforms & the latest technology trends
