Job Summary

The Research Department’s Structural and Climate Policies Division has an opening for a fungible Economist/Sr. Economist to work on structural policies.

The selected candidate will contribute to strengthening the department’s work on key macro-structural topics, including labor markets, firms’ dynamics, structural reforms and industrial policies. The candidates will play a significant role in shaping and implementing the research agenda of the department in these areas, the integration of research results in the multilateral surveillance products of the Fund, and the IMF’s effort to enhance the bilateral surveillance of macro-structural issues in the context of Article IVs.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proven research record in labor and employment policies, possess a deep knowledge of the latest academic literature on labor economics, and exhibit a strong capacity to translate research findings into actionable policy recommendations. At the same time, a solid background in macroeconomics is essential. Additionally, familiarity with issues concerning the labor market impacts of artificial intelligence will be regarded as a strong asset.

The candidate will show top-notch econometric skills and proven experience with large micro-datasets. In addition, an ability to work with theoretical models would be considered very favorably.

Minimum Qualifications

PhD in macroeconomics or a related field or a master’s degree in macroeconomics or related field with at least 4 years of relevant professional experience, is required. PhD is strongly preferred.

In addition, the successful candidate should have demonstrated the capacity to work independently, carry out high-quality policy-relevant research on macro-structural issues, possess excellent analytical and technical skills, be able to write well and quickly as well as to communicate effectively with different audiences, and exhibit strong leadership skills/potential. A publication record in peer-reviewed journals commensurate with the candidate’s level of experience is expected.
