Job Description
Purpose:
The Senior Communications Specialist enhances the reputation and promotes the achievements of the College of Engineering through effective written communication. The primary focus of this position is editing science and research news releases, donor and student stories and communications for college executive leadership. The Senior Communications Specialist assures quality and thoroughness in all communications activities from the College of Engineering. The primary focus of this position is editing science and research news releases, donor and student stories and communications for college executive leadership. This position reports directly to the Assistant Director, Media Relations and Editorial Services.
Responsibilities:
- Review, revise, and refine science and engineering research news releases to ensure accuracy, clarity, and adherence to editorial guidelines for a variety of audiences.
- Collaborate with internal and external writers to refine complex scientific information into accessible and engaging content for the general public and media dissemination.
- Provides editing of other college news articles and marketing/communications collateral produced for the college.
- Occasionally edits content for annual reports, brochures, flyers, newsletters and social media posts for the College of Engineering and the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station.
- Edits communication materials, correspondence and talking points for college executive leadership.
- Other duties as assigned.
What we need:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Five years of communications and/or marketing experience.
What is helpful:
- Proven experience in editing science-related content and crafting compelling stories for various audiences.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to present information clearly and concisely.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of AP Style or other relevant style guides.
