About the role

Position Summary

New Visions for Public Schools develops and implements scalable approaches to achieving equitable outcomes for students in public schools across New York City and beyond. Our data and research work supports this mission by providing staff with actionable, timely, and accessible information to make data-informed decisions.

The Senior Research Analyst brings methodological and analytic expertise to help New Visions understand, evaluate, and improve student and school performance. The role is responsible for tracking progress toward organizational goals, developing predictive metrics, and advancing outcome measurement using advanced quantitative methods. Working closely with program teams and senior leadership, the analyst translates complex data into actionable insights that drive continuous improvement.

Who You Are

You are an analytically rigorous and mission-driven researcher motivated by applying quantitative methods to complex, real-world educational challenges. You are:

  • A Strategic Problem Solver: You enjoy the intellectual challenge of matching the right research design to the right question, whether it requires exploratory analysis or quasi-experimental methods.
  • Impact-Oriented: You are driven by how your work can practically improve school support structures and student outcomes in real time.
  • A Translator: You bridge the gap between technical complexity and practical application, taking pride in making data accessible to non-technical audiences.
  • A Detail-Oriented Collaborator: You value data quality and accuracy and thrive in a team environment built on shared responsibility and continuous learning.

What You’ll Do

Working with key stakeholders throughout the organization, you will apply advanced statistical methods and data science techniques to support continuous learning and improvement. You will lead analytic workstreams independently, exercising judgment over research design, method selection, and interpretation.

Measure Progress & Report on Impact

  • Partner with programmatic teams to define, refine, and monitor student and school performance metrics aligned to organizational goals (e.g., graduation, college readiness, attendance)
  • Produce clear, timely analyses and progress reports, highlighting trends, successes, and areas for improvement, with attention to equity across student groups

Advance Predictive Analytics & Outcome Measurement

  • Develop, validate, and refine predictive models that forecast student outcomes and support early identification of students in need of intervention
  • Conduct longitudinal analyses evaluating expected outcomes against actual outcomes to identify drivers of performance and inform continuous improvement
  • Apply advanced quantitative methods to strengthen outcome measurement and support evidence-based decision-making

Collaborate to Build Tools That Support Data Use

  • Coordinate with program teams to operationalize metrics and models in reporting products and data tools used by internal teams and schools
  • Create documentation, training materials, and support structures that enable non-technical users to independently explore data and apply insights

Contribute to Organizational Learning & External Research

  • Contribute analytic expertise to grant proposals, reporting, and external research collaborations
  • Facilitate sense-making sessions within and across teams to interpret network-wide data
  • Stay current with advances in quantitative methods, education research, and data science to continuously strengthen analytic practice

Required Qualifications

  • Education & Experience: Master’s degree in a quantitative field (e.g., statistics, economics, education research, data science) and 5+ years of professional experience conducting quantitative analysis in an applied educational research, program evaluation, or social science research setting.
  • Methodological Expertise: Demonstrated mastery of quantitative methods, including longitudinal analysis, outcome evaluation, predictive analytics, and emerging machine-learning approaches.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in R for data man
